My state ref experience
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:49:55 AM »

I just want to share my experience with the unjust popo. police
The story began back in July. I headed out to Manhattan beach to have a great day. Long story short I'm looking for parking and i make a right to the main intersection and I'm cruising at normal speed and i look at my rearview and i see a beloved bike popo. I had a hks hi power exhaust at the time, so i knew i was getting pulled over and i did.
I turn off the car put the keys on the dash, the cop approaches my window and i ask him why he pulled me over. He said for modified exhaust. So i was like ok, its fine to replace your exhaust as long as u keep all the emissions stuff untouched and it meets the 94 decibels. He doesn't care about what i say. He goes on to ask me for license, registration, and insurance, I hand him everything, he doesn't even look at it and tells me to pop my hood, and i said ok sure. I had a full injen intercooler kit and air intake. He sees the intake and he ask me for the carb paper work, i told him i had none, so he gives me a ticket for modified emissions. I asked him what was his need to pull over people that aren't endangering the public, he stayed quite and ask me to sit on the side walk. For some strange reason he calls back up and now theres two patrols and two popos diggin into my car to see what they could find at that point i was so pissed. So i told him what he was looking for and he said for any more illegal performance parts. So i told him he had already said i was gettin an emissions test so whats the point of looking at my car any further. So he writes me up and i finally leave.
So a month later i have to pay or fix this ticket, so i decide to try my chances. I simply took the air intake, i left the intercooler piping, walbro fuel pump, hks exhaust, and mbc on the car and go to the ref. So i make an appointment. The day comes and i go to the fer and he ask me if i have any modified parts and i say yes and he tells i will automatically fail the visual inspection. I accept and he proceeds to do the smog check, which i passed. So he gives me a paper saying i passed the emission test but i fail the visual test. So i spent 30 bucks at the ref and now i have to go to the Torrance court.
So the same day i rush to the court and theres like 50 people ahead of me, great. When i finally reach the window i get helped by some geeky looking lady. I explain my situation and show her my paperwork. The first thing she tells me is that i failed the visual and i will have to make an appointment at the local state ref to pass that. So i ask y i need to pass a visual if my ticket is only for emissions. she tells me hold up and she goes and talks to a supervisor. She comes backs and tells me ok go to the next window and pay ten dollars everything is clear.
So there you go if you guys get emissions tickets no need to take all the crap of to pass visual, just pass a smog check and your good. I tough i would share with all the popo hating lately. (Now I ride under the radar with rre stealth parts)smitten

I think you just got lucky.....Because even though visual is not "technically" related to emissions, it is still apart of the emissions test.  I had a ticket like this once as well and there were no way in hell they were gonna let me off without passing the state ref.

They made a mistake.  You have to pass visual as well.

It really is stupid though.

Well I just told the clerk that the violation on the ticket said i was required to pass a emissions test. To me a emissions test is a smog test. And yes the  popo looked under my car to check for a cat and i had the rre rally cat so he didn't say anything.  I guess i got lucky. Afro

How come I got a non-correctable modified emissions ticket? Oh because Laguna Beach Police's Officer Peck is a worthless human being. Newport and Irvine PD's ftw.
