New E85 (ethanol) Stages
« on: January 03, 2008, 01:43:32 PM »

E85 is still pretty hard to find in Cali, but it is around.  Now that we have it pretty well sorted out for customer cars, I'd like to make it an official package that is offered.  Basically the same thing as the regular gasoline versions of the stages that have been around forever, but with larger injectors to accommodate the increased fuel delivery needs.

Stage 1E  ~365AWHP EVO8, ~380AWHP EVO9

-RC 750cc injectors
-Walbro 255HP fuel pump
-Dejon Tool MBC
-2.75" Downpipe
-3" turbo back exhaust
-High-flow Cat or RRE Rally cat
-K&N drop-in air filter (stock airbox)
-Boost Gauge
-Custom flash tune

Stage 1E+ is all of Stage 1E + HKS 272 cams for EVO8 or Cosworth 272 Cams for EVO9     ~385awhp EVO8, ~400awhp EVO9

Stage 2E  ~460-~520awhp depending on the turbo you select and how much lag you want

-RC 1000cc injectors
-Walbro 255HP fuel pump
-Dejon Tool MBC
-2.75" Downpipe
-3" turbo back exhaust
-High-flow Cat or RRE Rally cat
-RRE Stealth cold air intake airbox upgrade
-Boost Gauge
-RRE Turbo kit
-Race intercooler upgrade and piping
-Cams HKS 272 EVO8 or Cosworth 272 EVO9
-Custom flash tune

Stage 3E  ~520-~600awhp depending on the turbo choice and how much lag you want

-RC 1600cc injectors
-Walbro 255HP fuel pump or 2 Walbros depending on the specific setup and goals for the car
-Dejon Tool MBC
-2.75" Downpipe
-3" turbo back exhaust
-High-flow Cat or RRE Rally cat
-RRE Stealth cold air intake airbox upgrade with smooth bore MAF eliminator
-Boost Gauge
-RRE Turbo kit
-RRE race built 2.3L stroker engine
-RRE race ported head
-Race intake manifold
-Cams HKS 280 EVO8 or Cosworth 280 EVO9
-AEM EMS and tuning

Stage 3E Dyno plots:  24-28 PSI spread

Thanks Pops.  Yeah that's the only real downside to E85 right now is that there are only a couple stations to get it from.  That will hopefully change soon if Arnold Schwarzenegger gets his way and makes E85 much more available at your local gas station.

^^yes but we only need one close to home Smiley.

Will you develop generic limp mode maps that e85 users can download in case they get stuck with no supply and have to run 91?

I am working on a hybrid map that will support both, you just change the boost level for the fuel you are running.

The best thing though is to have 2 separate maps like I've always been making, a full 91 tune, and a full E85/100 /C16whatever tune.  Flash users will need the Tactrix cable and a laptop to swap the maps out on the fly, and AEM EMS users will need a laptop to swap the maps.  Really nothing different than what we have been doing...

It looks like Scott is saying that the Walbro will work as long as you upgrade to much larger injectors.

E85 is compatible with the seals and lines on the EVO, so no worries.

Fuel pump wise, the Walbro is fine up to point, then you go to a dual-walbro setup.

I REALLY like the stuff so far.  On my second tank and it feels and runs just like expensive leaded race gas more or less.  Thanks to scot for the pointers on scaling my map and the feedback. Afro

Yeah, this would be sick. See some live action. Who has had this setup for the longest time? It's a good start tho.

There are a couple of these E85 stations. If you go to the first page, it shows you some nearby stations in SOCAL. But, by my first look at it, it looks like they definitely need to expand. You'd think there be a lot of these stations, since millions of these new GM cars are e85, but it doesn't seem like it. Especially with gas that just keeps going up Sad

^yea, i noticed that the only nearby stations to me are a good distance away.

ive been waiting for this since i saw the *unnamed* E85 Evo at the LA autoshow last year (06)...

In AZ there are all kinds of gas stations already selling blended ethanol gas.

Are you guys planning on running e85 all the time or just for track events? I know one draw back of e85 is that you get 30% less gas mileage compared to regular gas.

I asked a quesiton about efficiency and someone indicated 10% loss, but you have to compare it to race gas prices not pump prices.
