Czars Racing- Track oriented racing team in Southern California

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself here. My name is Suren and I, along with Jeff (Treyzian), am one of the founders of Czars Racing. We are a new team, and we just launched our FB page. If you have time, please give us a like.

    https://www.facebook.com/czarsracing

If you have seen my Build Thread (click here), then you know I'm all about a daily driven track car- one you can drive to the track, beat it, then drive it back. Besides having fun, I love setting records to come back and beat them, and that's what our team is about. We'll be working together to improve our times and technique, and we figured having a fan base would be pretty cool.

Our schedule is as follows (subject to change any time):
Willow Springs Road Course - Sunday, December 14, 2014 - SpeedVentures
    Buttonwillow 13CW - March TBA - SpeedVentures
Gingerman - May TBA - EvoPalooza
    Road Trip to Seattle, WA
Laguna Seca - September TBA - TBA
Streets of Willow - November TBA - SpeedVentures

    Our members and their cars:

Shea Westmoreland - VW Golf GTi

Mika De Coster - Scion FRS

Zi Lin - Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Jeff Yang - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR

Suren Simonyan - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR

    Lap Times (personal):
SW: Buttonwillow- NA; SOW- NA; Big Willow- NA; Laguna Seca- NA; Gingerman- NA
MD: Buttonwillow- 2:10.701; SOW- NA; Big Willow- NA; Laguna Seca- NA; Gingerman- NA
ZL: Buttonwillow- 2:23.996; SOW- NA; Big Willow- NA; Laguna Seca- NA; Gingerman- NA
JY: Buttonwillow- NA; SOW- 1:28.014; Big Willow- NA; Laguna Seca- NA; Gingerman- NA
SS: Buttonwillow- 2:10.570; SOW- NA; Big Willow- NA; Laguna Seca- NA; Gingerman- NA

We'll have progress shots up there, as well as videos and other cool stuff.

    Seriously, I need more low!

Agreed, let's just hope all goes well and safe and we get to have fun. Speaking of which, I'll have to get the oil viscosity everyone uses so I can figure out what oil to bring with us to the track in case of oil leaks, maybe a quart or so, depending on the variety.

Nice, HPDE's are fun. Check out my FB page as well. Mostly TA focused on a car I'm wheeling this year in Global Time Attack and Redline Time Attack: www.facebook.com/carsonmotorsports

We will be a Buttonwillow on 8/30 for Redline Time Attack Round 5. We just went 1:53 in testing last month, Hoping to go faster this month.

Well... Streets of Willow (CW) track day recap:
Check out the FB page (ie. give us a like, it helps me with my lack of self-esteem ):
    https://www.facebook.com/czarsracing
    https://www.facebook.com/TreyzianPerformance

This would be the first time tracking the car since all the major suspension mods. Decided to keep it fully loaded with seats, sound equipment, fluids, etc., to compare the times with a friend who has a similarly setup car. Only weight reduction was trunk plastics, spare tire, and jack :/

    1st Session:
4 run groups, started with the green (intermediate) group which is the 3rd highest... The track wasn't crowded, but I still could not for the life of me get a clean run, there would always be a car in front of me :/

    (PS, I'm Jeff)

    2nd Session:
Since the green (intermediate) group was so crowded, I got bumped up to the 2nd highest group, gold (advanced intermediate) group. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the rear at the beginning, but the traffic cleared up. Managed to get a clean run in, and then the next lap, the brake fade was just too much :/ Expected the DS2500's not to hold up to a long thrashing, but they were terrible after only a few aggressive laps on the full weight X.

    (PS, I'm still Jeff)

    3rd Session:
I sat out for the rest of the morning sessions to let the brakes cool. 3rd session for me was the second session after lunch. A few people had called it quits due to heat, car issues, etc., so the run group was much smaller. Managed to sneak in a few laps before the brakes faded on me. Also, ran out of E85, so this was the end for me.

Because of all that happened today, the next main focus will be braking. Will be looking at a set of track-specific brakes + rotors, leaning towards ST43's. Also will be fabbing up a system of some air guides to help direct more air to and cool the brakes.

Another thing was, this track requires your car to rotate. I stupidly set up the FSB as full stiff, and RSB as full soft, thinking I could just use the power to rotate the car if needed, but all that did was add to my lap times :/

Also will be bringing a few extra jugs of E85 next time... thought 12 extra gallons would be enough, but boy was I wrong... The car drinks basically a half a tank every 15 minutes on the track...

Previously hated this track (without even driving it) because of how small it was, but I kind of like how it's a little more technical than some other tracks, ie. Big Willow. I really look forward to redeeming myself for this shitty track day, especially when the Ohlins come This time, with Ohlins and a better set-up suspension, a bit of weight reduction, better brakes, and of course driver mod, hopefully I'll "brake" into the 1:25's... or better...

Nice recap Jeff. Sounds like it was valuable from a developmental standpoint. Looking forward to seeing the progress!

I was running that night. If I would of known, I could of ridden with you and given you some pointers. If you see traffic (try to look way ahead) before you start your hot lap. If you have to back off and let the gap widen, do so. Planning for your traffic free hot lap, actually starts when you are at pre-grid. :) Showing up first makes it a bit easier if you are fast enough to stay out front without getting caught. Also lining up behind a slightly faster car helps as well if he goes out first, and you are second right behind him. Every situation is different.

^^^ in addition to this, once things get a bit mixed up, if you need to—pit, and use a basic hand gesture to tell the hot pit guy that you need space. Besides what John says, this always works for me, especially at NASA where when I was in HPDE 1&2, I would just keep getting caught up even just lapping people in slower cars.
