2005 Evo 8 MR Cranks but wont start

    Hey guys

I have an 05' 8 MR that all of the sudden just didn't want to start. Thursday night got home from school parked it on my driveway and went to sleep Friday morning it would only crank but it wouldn't start. Battery is good (it cranks) fuel pressure is good checked that already, coils are good checked for spark on both. What can it be? The check engine light did not come on so there is no code stored.

    Any advice can help

So your 3 things for start are Fuel, Air, and Spark.

Fuel: You said you checked Fuel pressure. How did you check this? Can you hear the pump prime? Gauge on the rail or pull the return line?
Spark: You checked the coils, but did you check the plugs? Are they fowled or wet?
Air: Is the MAF clean and plugged in? Throttle Position Sensor plugged in?

Does anything change if you tap the throttle during cranking? Does it catch or hiccup at all or just no start at all?

    Hey M4Lki3r

I can here the pump prime also checked the return line and there is fuel
the spark plugs are sometimes wet
the MAF is clean and plugged just like the TPS.

It just doesn't start and it sometimes back fires

I sometimes have this same issue where my car doesn't start..

I have a mini battery kit and my turbo timer voltage shows good but when I ignite the key I only hear my fuel pump whining

I just push the Evo down the drive way and start the key and it cranks up

    Best trick for standard cars

A backfire normally means timing is off. Check to see if your timing belt is good.

No crank intermittently happens when the interior becomes warm. I usually crack open the steering column and move the ignition switch upward. If moving it doesn't work I'll fiddle with the black wire which 9/10 starts up.

thanks for all the inputs guys. Evo is still out. can a leaking water pump cause any damage to the CPS? should i replace it? The car does turn over (crank) but it wont start. i know how the car behaves when the immobilizer activate so thats not the cause. i also know how to check for a boost leak and that has been ruled out. timing has been check and it looks fine what sensors besides the CPS can prevent the car from starting? how can i check if the ECU is good?

So after 8 months of no activity for the Evo I started to test the Crank position sensor and that checked out good. I also checked the Cam position sensor and that was not switching, so i bought a new cam sensor and after replacing it it still didnt turn on. On july 4th i went to crank it again but this time i let it crank for about a minute until it sounded like it was on. so i let go if the key and voila the car is on. its been turning on ever since. so i guess the issue has been fixed.

Thanks to everyone who gave me their advice.
