Sure, the view is nicer for 20-30 minutes for that stretch from Santa Barbara to Ventura, but it's not a more "fun" drive outside of that.

Take the 101 down from Monterrey.. Plenty of places to stop in between.
If he takes the 101 all the way, sure. But the reasonably priced stations aren't until you hit Ventura/Oxnard, and that route is around 50 miles longer to Disneyland compared to diverting from the 101 to take the 5 through Santa Clarita.
I live in santa Maria area...101 all the way down..I've made it to Anaheim in about 3/4 tank cruising(about 3 hrs)...u got slo, AG, sm, SB then oxnard area as possible stops if u need to
Drove the evo to vegas from LA took 3 hrs using the 10 to the15. Drive kills your mid chest. One stop for gas in barstow and two stops for restroom for passengers.
Would it be recommended I take off my oem spoiler? lol

^^^ Lol. OP, the holes will add drag, thus causing you to be less aerodynamic. Big wing, because race car.
Here's my experience with road tripping a X MR:
Mods: RRE SuperStreet Package. Modified rear muffler, cosworth filter, retune. That's it.
Almost 6000 miles (San Diego - Yuba City, CA - Chicago, IL - Dayton, OH - Las Vegas - San Diego). 2 people plus trunk filled with stuff (so figure about 500lbs of cargo/people).
Mileage: 5942
Gal of fuel: 251
MPG: 23.62
Total cost of fuel: $980
Average cost/mi: $0.165
Almost all of that was highway miles, except for short stays in the cities mentioned above. Only ONCE had an issue with tank size because it was late, in the middle of Utah, and we were trying to make the next city before stopping for dinner and gas. Should have stopped but didn't and therefore a self-induced problem rather than the car.

i drive between LA and SD a lot. Longest trip I've made in an evo is to Las Vegas. Never felt in danger of running out of gas. I haven't been to norcal in the evo, but typically when I go north I stop to get gas at Buttonwillow and Lemoore (near Harris Ranch), and they spaced out at 120 miles or so? I'd wouldn't worry about not finding a gas station.
When the tires were new long drives were pretty comfy for me. Now 9,000 miles later with the advan's worn in the tire drone is driving me nuts.
