Track Night - Streets of Willow (Twilight Event-CCW) July 18th

Just putting a feeler out there to see how many people are interested in doing track night at willow springs organized by Extreme Speed on July 18th. If we can put together a group of at least 3 people, then I am definitely down for it.

Nice! Cooler ambient temps should make for ideal run conditions in July. Great idea!

Yup. My first track day was actually at night back in 2010. It's fun, and your eyes re-adjust to the lighting. They put up stadium style lights so it's not that dark really. For the dark spots you have to slow down a tad to find your way, or just trust your muscle memory. Not too different from running in the canyons at night versus day, but obviously going MUCH faster....haha The big benefit is the cooler temps which you wouldn't have during the day.

Well, I ended up doing the day time event because the night time event filled up super fast (vtec club meet). Good thing I did, because in the afternoon thunderstorms rolled in and the rain got heavier as the afternoon progressed. I was able to get 2 dry sessions in before the rains came. It was pretty insane with the rain, everybody was spinning out and it was fun to watch. There was a new Audi A4 that spun off track into the gravel and tore up the whole front driver side of the car, pretty sure there was suspension damage, they had to drag it back to pit lane with a rim that had no tire.....the rim did not turn as it was being dragged.

    Got some pics and video

The black evo is one of the rare SE's models.

    Mmmm......GTR

The GTR and s2k drivers gave me shelter during the rain.

Hell ya dude. If i had known there was gonna be rain and cooler temps i would have had to make the pilgrimage. I bet that was a blast, all sorts of sideways shenanigans. Will have to watch the vids when i get off work. BTW, did that silver s2k w/ the hardtop there belong to a guy named Marvin?

I ended up doing the night event. Unfortunately, they had to shut down the track for three hours because the rain was so bad, and the top half of the track was flooded with mud. They ended up doing a shorter configuration which was actually a lot of fun. Basically turn left at the chicane and hook up with the blow pass instead of going up into the bowl and back through the esses (CCW). Never driven at night in the rain on track before. It was a lot of fun, and I welcomed the challenge. I was playing with this STi in Miata which made for a good time. Wish it would of been an Evo though...haha Rainy days are always a good opportunity to practice good car control. Luckily I kept my car on track. No cleaning mud the day and weeks after, haha.
