    some advice on waxes etc.

So haven't logged in for awhile since my car was at the shop for a month. Couldn't log in seeing seeing all the evos here. Well got my car back it was a full paint job someone keyed it. Just some opinions and waxs or how often to apply. Didn't really do a full detail job before the paint job just basic water soap wash, trying to keep the paint looking good.

I really like Ammo NYC's stuff, but Chemical Guys, Mothers, Meguiar's all work great.

Honestly, caring for a paint job every day is just too much work for me. I usually do my best to keep my paint in good shape, wash and wax regularly, but I don't stress it too much. A mini-detail w/ sealant protects the car for a good 4-6 months.

It was all the panels of the car, so insurance covered a full paint job

dang. i hate people that disrespect other people's property. im glad it got fixed.

+1 on what Jeff said above.

on my daily driver that sees about 600+ miles a week, i do a full detail at least once a year, clay it at least 4x a year. i exclusively use meguiars since I detail cars on the side using that and have been doing so for at least 5 years professionally.

what i do put on the car after every wash (i just use the drive through touchless wash) is liberally spray their spray waxes on the car. if anything a little protection goes a long way. sure it would be better to actually put a liquid/paste wax on the car but for the most part, the spray waxes can do an ok job in between those full on wax sessions.

thanks macky.thanks guys that answered alot of questions like how ever so often apply wax and other products. would the waxes that you could apply and buff out with a cloth be better than the ones you need a buffer? just never really used a buffer usally just a cloth

the waxes you apply and buff out typically provide a bit more protection than the spray waxes.

but to answer the general question that always gets asked - how long does wax last - the simple answer is "it depends".

exposure to UV, the elements, heat, etc all have a detrimental effect on whatever wax you put on your car. the wax is meant to take the brunt of the exposure rather than the paint, hence why waxes are called "sacrificial barriers".

waxes that you apply with a spray are just as good as the ones you use a buffer for. the spray ones just dont last as long, because the delivery (liquid vs paste) is easier to remove.

+ 1 for the spray waxes. I wash my car every other week and apply a spray wax every time. Detail once a years. But 1 year later and the spray wax keeps my paint looking so clean and wet. Even after one week of daily driving with dirt it always has a nice shine. So I just keep the spray wax handy.

What I was about to advise is probably too much for the average DIYer. I guess it comes down to how much you value quality. Also no matter what the wax you use it can only perform as well as you prep the surface. So remember details are about prepping. Most of the quality portion in how well a detail looks and holds up is due to prep work much like body work and paint. The owner of Ammo pretty much was groomed in detailing around the same time I was. He has been in the business for about as long as I have. The way he approaches detailing is the correct mindset to have. Not many people I say that about. Chemical guys are good products as well. They have a very similar formula in the way they produce their products compared to all the big name brands. In some of their videos I have a few critiques but nothing major. Again this is coming from a guy who has roughly 2 decades of experience. At any rate, I am here to help anyway i can.
