I want to switch over to the GReddy type S.

Can you run the type s as a recirculating bov? Or only vta? Also, is running a bov vta that big of a problem? (sorry to kinda hijack your thread, just had a few questions)

The GReddy Type S can be run as both a recirc and venting BOV. The nice thing about it is that you dont need to have any recirc adapter for it.

Running VTA on the Evo isnt optimal because of the Karman MAF we have. It knows how much air it didnt use (air it blew off) and it calculates the next inlet of air thinking that it can use that blown off air again. So, if you vent, you'll end up running rich because you dont have the same amount of air it thought you had. It matches the fuel up with the amount of air it thought you had, so it ends up having more fuel than it needs for the volume of air.

Is $175 too much for the HKS with recirc kit, used? Let me know...

why do you want a new bov as your first mod? your not going to be able to hear it unless you get a intake.

can you benefit from a BOV ? and there any gains with a stock turbo or you benefit unless you are running an upgraded turbo ??

Can you run VTA BOV with a piggyback and have the piggyback/reflash (i know you can do it with a stand alone) adjust so that it knows that the air is being vented or would it be a giant pain in the ass?

gosh im skerd to do performance upgrades cuz i dont anything going wrong hehe maybe i should read more forum post...

You can have the car run leaner under 2,000 rpm so it wont stall out, but there no real fix for the problem caused with venting on a karman maf. Setting your standalone to speed density mode is the only way around it.

sorry what i really meant was bov was one of the 1st mods that i'm gonna get but eventually my first mods were exhaust, intake and bov all at the same time.

dont they say that besides noise theres no perrformance behind it . At least not on the Evo , unless you are running a lot of psi , which for the stock turbo the stock BOV is more then enough ...

You can still hear it without an intake. I got a Greddy Type S custom fitted by Road Race and you still hear the sound...its faint, but you can still hear it.

really? hmm...thats interesting coz i was about to change mine to the stock bov back again but changed my mind when i read on some thread complaining of how lousy the stock bov is - some leaking problem or something like that...

well...thanks for the info Goku

Works BOV looks like stick 9 MR (metal) BOV prolly with heavier spring. For drivability any recirculating BOV will be better. For noise the VTA is better. Why sacrifice drivability for noise.

PS I run stock 9 valve with "crush mod" to hold more boost.

You mean the turbonator... had a guy in a 3000GT do that to me at the light the other day... Car was absolutely still and NO REVVING... just 3 or 4 BOV hits and then he revved up and drove off...
