I just got my new sportcups at my door this morning... Yes they are "r" compounds. They are seriously wide:

I am now on my 3rd set of tires by 14k miles. I have a 20% left on the azenis and the sportcups are going to be for the track...

BTW, My azenis are holding up better than the stock yoka's and so I will likely continue to run them for the street.

Rich is mainly responsible for this descent into sportcup madness...

My 245/40/17 hoosiers rubbed a little , be careful and pay attention . The only thing I don't like about the Yoko's is that when the temp gets below 38 degrees , taking a simple turn becomes a drift contest . I wish Yoko would make the A-046D in other fitments , so that I may put them on my other cars . Right now I have Sumitomo HTR's on the the EVO . They work excellent below 38' , excellent in the wet , and in the dirt , OMG  these fuckers dig trenches ! the best part $ 89 at Tire Rack . The ONLY bad thing I can say about the Sumi's is that it has no rim protector , oh and the first 100 miles were a little "squirmy" , but after that they were fine

I am getting my BBS RS-GTs in a month and I need tires. They will be used for daily driving over the summer and for lots of track days and some autocrosses. I don't care about road noise, but I'd like them to last a little while. So far I've considered 235/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 2s, 245/40/18 Bridgestone S-02s, 245/40/18 Yokohama A-048s, and 255/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sports. Any suggestions??? All the tires cost about the same (between $215-$300 from Tire Rack).

Thanks,

Chris

Personally , I would get Bridgestone S-03 , not S-02 in the 245/40/18 . They are not quite as sticky as the stock advans but definately wear better . Ya know you can get the cusco pillow ball mounts to even the wear .

You going to try to shoehorn those 255's onto the stock wheels Mark?

No Way!

John at rre recomended I get some good forged wheels in 17x8.5 +40 offset for them. This size is to run with their jic setup. Even so I have to roll the fenders...

Anyone have any leads on that size for for some ce28n's or similar under 16 lb wheel?

Of course. 18x8.5, 114.3x5, 36mm offset, Diamond Black, titanium fasteners, the whole 9...

I had S-02s and S-03s (both Pole Positions) on my S2000. The grip on the S-02 was INSANE, but the rain and durability was better on the S-03. The big problem with S-03s are their weight. Since this will be my summer set-up (since we have gay-ass seasons here in VA), I will only run them 7-8 months a year (maybe 1,000 miles a month). Thanks for the input!

Chris,

Why not do the pilot sportcups? I saw rich's car drive at willow and they offer almost reasonable wear for r compounds. That was one of the main reasons I went with them. Reports of 50 + heat cycles... Definitely an unfair advantage.

Mark, I can only get the sport cups in 235/40/18. I want at least 245 section on the 8.5" wide wheel. I am still considering PZero Corsas, too. I believe the Advan A048s will be here soon in 245/40/18, but I am not sure. Between picking brake pads (for the same purposes of lots of trackdays and daily driving) and tires, I am losing my mind... LOL

Get the OEM S-02s.
I think you can get those in 245/40-18 too, and they grip better than the Pole Position (heard from the s2k guys).
