Hey everyone, i jsut bought a whole bunch of new stuff for my Evo. Apexi SAFC-II, Defi Boost, Oil Pressure and EGT gauges, Buschur frount mount, etc... I plan on doing most of the installation myself, but im a little worried about the EGT gauge probe and the afc install and tuning. Does anyone heve any expreince doing these things, or know where i can get it done for a good price. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Both are cake...for the egt, drill and tap the manifold while the cars running.

dude drilling into your manifold can be a 1200 dollar f@@k up...I mean its one thing if you know exactly what you are doing...its another thing if its like your first attempt...all i am saying is be careful. I dont trust myself with a drill in the engine bay...socket set..all day...drill hell no...might be worth it to have a pro do it.

I dont mind having someone drill the manifold, but do i have to actually take tha manifold off the car and take it to the shop, because i assume you dont want to drill it on the car and have the shavings go through the turbo. Alos do you know where i can get it done?

I have heard that if you keep the car running while you drill wiht the manifold on the car...it blows the metal shavings up and out of the hole.

if the car is running at IDLE!! it will bypass the turbo.

If it goes through the turbo, it doesn't matter, and it won't neways go through it neways...

as for drilling your manifold being a 1200 dollar fuck up, I hardly think so...

And thats how every single egt sold by RRE and BR are in shop installed ;) The mani pressure keeps the metal out of the turbine.

How about tuning the SAFC, anyone know how to do that?

Get the S-AFC tuned by a pro.
Easy Street (Subaru tuner) in North Hollywood has a 4 wheel dyno, and the mechanic there actually drives an EVO (with S-AFC as well).

Cool, thanks. I also contacted Road Race Engineering and they said they would tune it for me for like $60, i guess thats a pretty good deal?

I ddint mean it as in if you drill it its a 1200 dollar f@@k up..i meant if you used the wrong bit..or the tapping process went wrong...or if something slipped...if god decided to smite you....you have a manifold with a big ass hole in it and ...well you need a new one.

A...I can do SAFC tuning for a moderate price. I can even walk you through tuning it yourself if you want. Anyone hear is capable of learning.

B. On the chance that you somehow managed to screw up tapping, which i doubt you would...You could drill the hole out a bit bigger, use the next sized tap and put a bolt in it, no prob. Never the less, plenty of people are not comfortable doing it themselves. nothing to be ashamed of.

I've got a portable wideband and I'm in Santa Clarita if you want to go driving around and tuning yourself. I'm still debating my install of the E-manage / Profec combo or selling it.. might go with a flash or UTEC.

Hey cool thanks, that sounds really good. I wouldnt mind learning how to tune it myself.

Just shoot me an e-mail whenever you want to play with it. I'm doing a clutch install on saturday but sunday may be ok.. usually weekends are good. You will need to have an O2 bung welded onto your downpipe before the CAT in order to tune decently.

If the car doesnt have a cat, do i still need to have a bung welded into the exhaust? Not saying that i dont have a cat, but, hypothetically

You will still need a bung, if you have a test pipe in place of the cat a bung there would be optimal so you don't have to modify the stock piping.

I can only tune on unleaded gas, so basically up to 100 octane to keep my sensor alive.
