Okay im really not sure if the evo's come with this device to regulate the pseed of our engine, I just want to know if there is a device on this car that does that, cuz all american cars that go through whatever testing to be street legal have to have a damn regulator, anyone know anything post up, thnx

why? do you really feel the need to go over 160 miles an hour???? im crazy, but those speeds are scary.. 228 feet a second?? thats almost a football length a second....thats fast enough..

trust me, im a speed freak, and i live in malibu, the hwy here is perfectly straight, so going 160 is nothing. if you drive past Malibu around big rock, before Oxnard on the PCH hwy 1, there is a navy base there, and the hwy gets so freaking straight you can easily hit 160...but...the bad thing is, you dont feel that your going so fast, once i get my money into my car, i will want to hit 200

Even if you remove your speed limiter, you still won't get pass 165.....Its really not the limiter, its your gears...You don't have enough gears to go that fast.....

true true, well i guess i want to improve acceleration, mostly, and looks, by august im going to have this car into compition shows

Trust me, our cars are faster than you think....I've raced many street monsters before namely 911 Turbo, and even the M3........I can pull away from both those cars before 120mph......So our top end isn't THAT bad.....I would agree it does lag alot the faster you......

well, you WONT hit 200 in this car.... you would need to build suspension, engine, dynamics, EVERYTHING. a porsche Carrera GT4 doesnt go that fast, and it isn't a rolling rock like the EVO. that goal is fairly unattainable on somewhat streetable vehicles. lpus can you imagine a ticket for 200 in a 55 zone? can you say felonious speed?

The stock ECU limits the top speed to 159MPH. With a reflash you can remove this limit from the ECU.

so wait, is it possible to actually take out the ecu and not install another from the industry? Plus yes you guys are right about the speed of 200 on a 55, it feels great, BUT where i live, cops = speed demons, anyways....i need more info on that ecu, reheat, id appreciate it :)

A reflash means you send your stock ECU to a tuner, the tuner then reprogram your stock ECU with a custom map and send you back the ECU. Or you can take your car to the shop and have the tuner custom tune your ECU on their dyno.

A good tuner can revise all performance-related engine control parameters in your ECU, like high and low octane fuel tables, high and low octane ignition timing tables, adaptable knock control logic, injector scaling, boost limits, rev limits, speed limits and so forth.

An example is Vishnu http://www.vishnutuning.com

you need to adjust the spoiler somehow to try lessen the drag but the spoiler is what's keeping the evo stable also. i guess you cant just have things your way :)

well if i had the tools possible to angle my spoiler, i'd do it, anyways, im going to save up money to try making my car more stable when going that fast....mann when i take my car past 145 mph on a hwy its smooth, but you can feel the car just wanting to flip, well its scary, but im down to buy new suspension and others..

I guess not having top speed regulated is another benefit of ems.

Anyone have the 5th gear ratio #s so I could figure out top speed at 8k...

mprtklr

well, i know at 7200rpm 5th gear is 156mph......

i was pushing 160 on this straight in my area and 5th was about 7100rpm so i dunno what ur seeing?

An inacurate speedometer, the higher you go the more off it is likely to be...trust me, I know.

mine was a digital display comming from my S-AFC, so i tend to belive it more than the analog gauges.

okay okay, i guess thats should be accurate, i will look into having one of those devices shortly.

Same goes with the tach, I have seen the tach jump over 8K when I have it revving high for more than half a minute.

that blows, well im going to definetly hook my car up to digital equipment...analog is inaccurate

i was referring to the tach since the S-AFC cant do speed, only REV

Well i havent really read about devices that are digital, but i was suggesting on changing all the meters in my car to digital, that means taking off the analog meters and installing a whole new system...but im sure that wouldnt be easy, and affordable :(

or fun, its just more interesting to watch gauges go up and up and up and up.. digital is so sanitized.

i guess? i play video games okay, and i own this one game called Tokyo Extreme racer Zero, it has some racing footage in tokyo, and shows all these super turbo ricers with all digital meters, easier to read and looks nice at nite, funny thing is most of them spent about 50k to 130k on engine and shit, this one silvia was totally an HP monster...80k just on engine....lol i need some money like that

160 divided by 7100= a .0225 ratio so 8000 rpm x .0225= 180mph.

With the new the new head, the valve train is spec'd to 9500 so...

damn good math there, i wouldnt know know....hmmmmmmmmm okay well no more of this conversation, digital is a way

What part of malibu are you in? Driving to malibu to me is like pulling teeth. Half the time theres mega construction. About going over 160, why would you ever want or need to other than to say you have? At night, anything you could seewith your headlights would be hit faster than you could react or stop to. To me its all about the twisties, there arent many traffic free (3am time excluded) roads I'd even have the room to stay at that speed more than a little bit.

The Evo is not electronically limited. The proclaimed (by Mitsu) "156 mph" limit is because of drag and gearing. The only way to overcome that is to add a lot more HP. As speeds and drag increase, the power required is geometric. To gain 10mph, you'll need 100 hp (not sure, just an example). To gain 20mph, you'll need 300hp, etc. Not a linear scale...

Not quite that drastic actually, with about 20-30 whp you will gain 10mph up top. More free flowing exhaust will open up the top end a little.

It is about 350awhp for 175MPH, 400awhp for 186, 500awhp for 200MPH. The power required goes up exponentially after around 120MPH.

The EVO runs out of gear at about 168MPH on the stock gearing. A stock EVO will go about 156MPH, 152ish at sea level. Intake and Exhaust with 21PSI should be around 160ish MPH.

The back end of the EVO has more upforce than it weighs, meaning the back end flies, at around 198MPH based on stock weight distribution and aero. Throw 600 pounds of lead in the trunk with 550awhp and it will go about 204mph.

If you are serious about doing it right, talk to these guys:

I went 165 on a 4 mile stretch. I had my ecu flashed by al.
I know I could go higher but I don't have enough room.
