My buddy swapped his stock turbo on his STI with a bigger one, with no upgrading. No problems at all.

Has anyone ever done this? If so, PM me and let me know where and what size turbo you bought. Thanks

I was wondering the same thing, and I was sifting through the search results on "Turbo Swap" but haven't found anything yet.

Buschur has a bigger turbo for $750 and its supposed to be a direct bolt on... I have yet to know how much work that entails.

Why Billy? you can run low 11s on the stock turbo. Actually maybe not, your car is loaded with tons of heavy shit. You dont drive fast anyhow.

I'm sure it can happen .. but you'd need to tune for more fuel because of more air .. thats if your pushing it of course ... Nothing a SAFC-II cant fix though ! keke

You should know by now that Evo owners have turned to their true side of DSM cheapness.

From what I understand, there is no direct bolt on upgraded turbo for our cars. You have to prchase the whole kit.??? Correct me if I'm wrong..

Also, this goes to the thread starter. If this is your first turboed car, the stok turbo is plenty to expieriment with. You can make decent hp numbers with decent track times. People have ran 11's with the stock turbo, and have reaced 400hp with it as well.

Where do you people get your misinformation? There is a bolt up turbo and its from ATP, they have a 3037, 3071, and 3540. These turbos will bolt up to the stock manifold but you need to use their downpipe and lines. They range from 2400-2800. Some people were happy and some were not with the turbos, just do some research.

The thing is the Injectors on the Evo are very maxed out. Anything bigger than the 10.5 turbo and you should upgrade the injectors.

DSM's have a lot of "bolt-on" turbo upgrades because of the orientation of the turbo, which is used commonly on other cars. The Evo's turbo is considered backwards so it needs a special manifold to be used on a DSM and vice versa if you want to use it on the Evo. I beleive buchur makes a manifold that works with DSM turbos. Either that or have a complete new turbine housing made liek ATP does to accomodate for the twin scroll manifold.

You can bolt anything up, just grab a nice T78 and get some flex tubing... some Silicon sealer... and BAM!!!

I'm doing some R&D right now for an upgraded turbo. Its going to have an adapter mated up to the stock manifold and I'll be using an Innovative SH-46 or SH-50. I'll eventually have a kit made up from it but I'm shooting for a retail cost of less than the ATP kit.

I'll probably be ready to dyno next month.

It is good to know that the stock turbo can keep putting out with moderate upgrades to the car. 400 horsepower out of these cars is hard to ignore considering their performance with 276 stock. 400 hp could potentially pace and outrun Ferraris like the F50.

* 400 hp could potentially pace and outrun Ferraris like the F50.

no it couldn't

Evo: 400hp 3200lbs
F50: 520whp 2600lbs

you might mention that an evo with 400bhp only has somewhere in the 340whp range. when conpared to an f50 with 520 whp :uglystupid2:

also it is of note the that f50 is a no holds race car that happens to be street legal, the evo is a watered down rally car, not to mention it has 1/3 the cylinders of the Fcar. hell with 450bhp maybe i could keep up with an enzo (660 bhp 2700 lbs)

you can just swap... and turbo boost down... but your car will kinda run like crap.
