Okay i was looking at a test pipe on the web, it replaces the CAT...what is the CAT exactly located on this picture :

http://www.socalevo.net/forums/modules.php?set_albumName=album10&id=powertrain_image032&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

And why is the test pipe illegal in the states and only for off-road use?

The cat is the piece between 1 and 3. Cat reduces emissions and makes your car smog legal. Removing it is fine if you are willing to pay a $2500 ticket. Go ahead, it'll be fun.

is not worth it , IMO . Just get a highflow cat you are better of that way ...

i heard taking out the cat and replacing it with a straight pipe can throw a CEL?

Anyone get pulled over yet? and if so, wuts the cost of the ticket?

You think if i have the RMR dp, catback, and cat delte... the delte pipe will make it alot louder?

han74j, did ur test pipe throw a CEL?

i think UR Test pipe is also about $70 plus guarantee no CEL :)

Having a test pipe will throw a CEL unless you have an O2 override (sometimes called a O2 cheater). Having a test pipe is illegal because you are removing your smog control device. In the stock EVO exhaust the most restrictive sections are the cat and the almost 90 degree bend into the muffler. The downpipe is also a machined downpipe, not a mandrel bent one.

the O2 overrider thing doesn't really work that well.... yeah 75 bucks its a little overpirced for local muffler shop. but then its done in less than a hour and i wont have to wait for shipping or anything

the test pipe that i got just a stirght pipe, today im goign to clear my cat back... the buschur SCCA 3' cat back its not a true 3'. the part where the cat back connects to the cat it turns to 2.5 so today im going to get that cut off and turn it into a 3' after i get my dp ill be 3' all the way

what exactly is the O2 Overrider? Is it a sensor? And where is it attatched?

Will this guarantte that you won't throw a CEL

yes its a sensor that gives ur computer info thinking that u have stock cat... but i heard it doesn't work....

Well, it does work if it's built correctly. If it's electronic based it will send a corrected voltage to the ECU. It's simple really, just head to your local auto parts store and get a handheld OBD II code puller.

Has anyone use UR test pipe? does it really eliminates the CEL? i mean since they said GUARANTEED NO CEL! ??

A high-glow cat is an option as well. Depending on the unit, it may have better flow characteristics than stock and allows you at least a chance of passing smog or avoiding a ticket. Unfortunately, they may still generate a CEL light. The RMR 3" HFC throws a light on my vehicle and Blair from RMR has indicated that it is to be expected.

The CEL is not in itself negative - rather the issue is in regards to the loss of ability to distinguish between a 'Your cat is missing' message and a 'Your piston is somewhere over the rainbow' message. Initially this doesn't seem like a big deal, but as the car's tune progresses (turbos, aquamist, NAWZZZZ, etc.) the likelihood of a catastrophic enginge failure that could be staved off by an early warning light grows...

Just my $1.50 anyways.

And (so say some people) step on the brakes to fully use any electricity left in the system.

hey just wondering...so when u have the test pipe installed, it will shoot fireball out of the exhaust right when u floor/launch it...ok the question is, will the fireball kill your exhaust?

leaveit2bevo

ya without tuning you will launch some fire, I dont think it would kill you exhaust because its not sustained.

"no tapper down".... im sorry what does that meaN?

theres a lot of different systems that are meant to work with the stock cat or stock exhaust .
Like HKS , AVO , that they allow you to bolt in there exhaust system to your stock cat , so the 3" design exhaust systems tapper down from 3" to 2.5" to be able to bolt on.
Theres other companies that allow you a 3" system all the way ....
