Anyone doing some pretty adjustable cam gears and wanting to leave the cover off so that you can see them might want to reconsider:

During my last practice run at SOW, I heard a whining noise and then my steering started feeling weird. Went in to the pit area and the sustained g forces had caused had caused the power steering line to rub against my pretty cam gears and make it leak. Power steering fluid all over the place and the motor smoking. Nothing too bad, I cleaned up the excess with a rag and I patched the hose with some clamps and rubber. Unfortunately, the pump is still not working.

The cover is there for a reason- you could have something go into the gear and cut your timing belt for instance! I consider myself lucky and the cover is going back on. I will have to pass on that extra helping of bling...

In any case, I missed out on my 2nd day timed runs. Still had a blast and got the car home fine.

Funny thing is, I just got back and I can't wait to go again.

its always wise to keep the cover on , had some friends with some bad experiences just cause you want your camgears exposed .It doesnt take that long to remove the cover to get to the cam gears and is not worth it taking the cover off , for all the things you can exposed your timing belt. Glad to know that no harm came from it Mark ...
