ROFL theres no problem , i have rev pass 7k . i think the problem is that you are just a bit to taken with how hard the car pulls that you get nervous and mist shift ...

I haven't done it but a friend did redline in the tranny and it went really smooth. I even test drive it, bleed it to fuel cut, and it feels smooth each gear.

Syncromesh.

I had Redline MT-90, while it did improve shift engagement over the factory oil I still had rough 2nd gear shift every so often. It was bad enough that I would have to slow down my shifts down into 2nd to prevent the crunches on a road course, thus losing time. I tried flushing out the tranny and putting new MT-90 again, but no luck. I decided to give Syncromesh a try since it had really good reviews from those who tried it and I have to say it has literally transformed the transmission. All shift are sooooo smooth it's incredible.

Syncromesh is made by Pennzoil. They are contracted to make it for GM, which sells it under their private label GM Syncromesh for about $10. Synchromesh is also bottled by Quakerstate, Texaco, and Shell. Some have read about this elusive Shell Helix gear oil that people have raved about and after doing some research I couldn't find a Shell Helix tranny oil, but came found that Shell has Shell MTX and it's Synchromesh. I have a hunch that BG Syncrhoshift is also Synchromesh, another lube that seems to be good.

The best part is you can go down to Autozone and pick up Pennzoil Syncromesh for $4.99. No need to go to GM and pay the higher price for the same stuff. Personally I never imagined putting anything Pennzoil in my Evo and something that's so inexpensive at $4.99/qt. One would think this is cheap stuff and certainly must not be good. But this stuff just works and it works really well in the Evo, so i'm not going to complain about it. If you've gotten to the point where you just can't stand the grinding shifts into 2nd and possibly other gears like I had, seriously consider Synchromesh. At $15 for 3qts. you can't lose, give it a shot.

Here's what the Pennzoil bottle looks like if you decide to try it.

some of the ITR owners have been using GM Syncromesh , they have seen positive results out of it . making the tranny a lot smoother ...

After doing some web searching I found that Shell Helix is actually motor oil. Shell Spirax is their gear oil. Check this (http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/product_applications.php) for Shell's Lubes.

Yep, but Shell Spirax is rated GL-5. That's a no no for the tranny. Evo synchros are copper and brass. GL-5 will accelerate wear to them.

I need to ask a couple of friends there feed back from the GM tranny fluid, dont want any side effects after runing that for a while...

Synchromesh is not exactly API rated, but is safe on brass and copper synchros and has been used succefully by many.

My delema was either to continue on and grind shifts imposed by me even though it was not intentional and I had no control over it's occurances, which in turn would continue to wear down on the synchros and other components or to use Synchromesh though it's not exactly GL-4 rated, which has proven very effective for me and others. Long term effects? Based on the technical facts and history of use by others I don't forsee any. YMMV though.

I have heard people are using new bushings and replacing something under the hood with a stiffer bushing, and having very good results.

I have the shifter bushings. They make a huge difference in terms of feel (Noel, Neil and a couple other guys tried it). I also have the under-hood bushings. Those are supposed to solve the grinding issue but I haven't had a chance to really hammer it into second, which is what usually causes the grind in my car.

ya I may try those, how much abuse will second take?

I have the under-hood metal bushing kit from lancershop. They are a slight improvement over stock, but I never had the grinding issue, so I don't know if they would solve the problem.

I've heard someone had the grinding issue, but after they installed a short shifter kit and the stiff bushings, there is no more grinding. There are a few company out there that make short shifter kits, like Perrin, Kartboy, B&M, you should try them out on other Evo that have them installed and see which one you like. I've tried the B&M at D1 and it felt a lot better than stock.

I never had this problem until last night, it seems to only happen for me from the 1-2 shift, and if I took first gear passed 7000... so this is common?

I embarrassed myself while messing around with a silver STI. It's amazing how many car lengths those things will jump out, when you bog like crazy and they launch at 5k. And the you proceed to miss 2nd. Uhh oops.

Ok what exactly are under-hood bushings? and where do they located?

Go here (http://lancershop.com/clutch.htm) and find were it says "2pc Under-hood Stiff Bushings Kit - Lancer EVO 8" and you'll see what they are.

They replace the bushings inside the items circled in red:

lol, it was my first "real" drag race in that car, I slipped the clutch at like 2.5K, and boy did that not work.

too much time spent in mulholland & latigo, and not enough time on the streets I guess.

heh, i can barely afford tires at the rate i'm going, much less a new clutch.

and when I missed 2nd, it literally just wouldn't go in, the clutch was indeed in...
not exactly sure why... at first thought it was just my mad skillz, but it happened again later that night and the clutch was fully depressed.
