Springs and retainers are recomended, but not absolutely necessary for stock RPM applications. Since I'm planning to have the head ported before too long, I decided to leave the springs alone for now. I'll have the springs (and probably valves) replaced when I send the head out. Lift on the JUN 264s is 10.5 and 10.8; basicaly the same as HKS 272s. The lobe profile, however, is much more aggressive.
As for an upgraded turbo; that's in the plan too. :)

Looks like I'm suddenly suffering from a fit of sanity. I'm not interested in tearing up a shiny, low mileage 4g63 or a new set of JUN cams, so I am going to replace the springs & retainers. If I'm going that far, I'll do the whole head (porting, valves, springs, etc.).
Who have you had do your headwork?

Nice work, Robi! Time for me to change plans again; it looks like I will be buying some track wheels instead of getting the head ported. This car just loves to eat money. I'll still be doing the valve springs, though.
Nice piece robi!

Talk to mark @ quantum racing- he works with bj's cylinder heads that do all the work for sheppard:

I have a stage 4 from them and it is a work of art.

Thanks for the info! I too a closer look at my budget for toys and track wheels and tires won out over porting the head. I guess that will need to wait until next year. I did order a valve spring kit from Robin at Quantum Racing though; decided a set of springs was cheap insurance.
