View Full Version : CLUNK when shifting

Does anyone else get a loud "clunk" or "wack" when upshifting (very) aggressively into 2nd? I shifted so fast that I don't know if it was when I let the clutch out (real hard) or if it was the actual movement of the stick that did it. It just happened this morning again and I'm wondering if something might be wrong... I know I should just chill with the hard shifting, but there's times when I need to squeeze into another lane in traffic and I forget I'm in an AWD car (STILL used to expecting the tires to be able to chirp  ) .

does it sounds like its comming from the back seat? If so I think it is the center or rear diff....

I get that in second and third gears.

Probably your rear diff. I doubt there's anything wrong with it, it's just part of driving an AWD car. My Celica used to do the same thing.

If it was a rear wheel drive car, you'd be hearing a chirp from the tires in stead.

Cheers,

Jason

i know, different cars, but i get that in my wrx (and i got in in my '99 2.5rs) when shifting hard. for the wrx, it's the center diff, and yes it's odd, but from what i've read, it's normal and isn't harmful...

(that's for imprezas though... i'd assume it's the same for evo's but dont know)

yeah this was a common post on evolutionm....It only really happens when I shift faster in low rpm shifts.... I found that letting off the clutch slower seems to get rid of the clunk...
