leaveit2bevo

I had no probs getting the brake dirt off with stock pads but the PF97 brake dirt I cant get all the way off, I have tried 3 diff kinds of brake dirt cleaner and none really get it all off. Any one know of something that wont hurt the rim and will get all the brake shit off?

clean the rims a lot sooner, don't let the brake dust build for to long. Making it almost impossible to remove.

use some sort of semi caustic pad (not maxi) once you get it all off wax your wheels in the future it will come right off.

What Dave just said, as well as what Goku said Bevo. Seriously, you need to clean your car more than twice a year dude! The brake dust will eventually just cake itself there, and be nearly impossible to clean off as Goku said. Dude, are you in a competition with Dino? To see who can have the EVO with the dirtiest wheels? haha

I use Smart&Final Degreaser for my brake dust rim cleaning duties, $5.00 a gallon and does not harm the rim finish. Hope this helps. :)

Try simple green. I think they work on the tuffest dirt ever.

I use a power washer - blasts away brake dust in no time, even the caked on stuff.

i use Orange Blast engine degreaser. u can get ut at wal mart, in the automotive section. that and those 2 buck power washers do the trick.

just spray the orange blast on the wheel, and within seconds u see all the brake dust break down and dissolve. even the inner parts of the wheel get cleaned. then even with a small splash of water ull see the results. a power wash will blow all the dirt off. i suggest you try this.

ya that probally works for the stock pad dust but im not using stock pads, im going to try a power washer seems like it would work well.

regardless, it gets even thick residues of tar on older wheels (my friend from work has a sentra that has prolly years of dust caked on the wheels, the srpay alone ate thru the grime)

its worth a try, then follow up with the power wash.

I couldnt find orange blast so I got citrus engine degresser and it worked worse than the simple green. The simple green is still the best but cant get it all off

You forgot the most important ingredient Rob...STEEL WOOL!!! Bevo, after seeing your wheels, I'm sorry to say bro, I don't think anything short of a blow torch and a cement truck is gonna' get that stuff off...you shoulda washed them period, let alone more frequently. Good luck, I don't envy you and the task.

Bevo-

If you ever get the pad dust off your wheels. Wax the whole damn wheel with this stuff. After some time a year maybe you will have to redo it. Keeping the wheels clean will be much easier.

I wonder how much different it is to regular paint wax.

the top coat on the wheels is basically a clear coat, isn't it?

I'm sure it's slightly different, somehow....but you could probably save a few dollars and just use regular carnuba.

here are pics of what i use:

before: slightly dirty (im anal, i clean the car every other day)

what i use:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/album131/P7140035.sized.jpg

after a few sprays, no need to scrub or whatnot:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/album131/P7140036.sized.jpg

after a rinse:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/album131/P7140037.sized.jpg

even if the wheels havent been cleaned in over a week (thick brake dust on the red evo) are removed in seconds.

It is tougher and stays on at higher temps. I have used zymol also it works but not as well as wheel wax
