For those of you who've seen lots of track days, and now have "brick red" Brembos, or "brownbos", what causes this?

Is it permanent?

Yep, drive fast at the track = brick red Brembos. Also have seen the diamond star hubcap try to melt out of the center of the stock wheel ;-)

u guys mean "center cap" im sure. Hub caps or those plastic wheel covers for people too poor to buy aluminum/chrome wheels.

Your baking/burning the paint, you can't clean that off. You could always have the calipers stripped and powder coated, when they get really brown.

BTW, if you run some sort of cooling ducts it goes a long way to help keep them red.

Hell, all that showes is that you actually use the car, right?

You are supposed to take those centercaps out when you go to the track.

Regarding the brakes, brownbos are the badge of those who actually drive their evos

Bleed your brakes and let the fluid get all over the calipers - that'll fix it the rest of the way....(it won't be brown any longer - it'll be gone.
And if your melting plastic wheel caps you may want to repack wheel bearings at some interval...that brake heat gets to the bearings and will cause premature wear.

The EVO hub/bearing is a sealed unit, when the bearings show significant wear, they are just replaced as an assembly. On the 2G Eclipses, which use the same design, we replace them every season for the guys who do monthly track days, as we have seen failures of the 2G hubs when run on road circuits.

Brownbos are the color EVO brakes are supposed to be.
