A few questions.

1. What are the lightest rims that fit the Evo and how much do they weight? (please post pictures if you have them)

2. What is the widest rim that will fit on a stock Evo with out causing clearance issues, and what is the offset?

3. What is the largest diameter rim that will fit on a stock Evo with out causing clearance issues, and what is the offset?

4. What is the best size wheel diameter for road racing performance?

5. Will 16" wheels fit on the Evo and clear the brake caliper?

Thanks.

Sean.

some of the questions you are asking have been cover already

1. Like stock advan's, decent grip when cold, past their prime on lap 3, blistered on lap 5 unless you let them cool off.

2. I believe this to be the tire of choice for the serious track day car, mounted on 8.5 inch wide wheels, excellent compromise between sidewall shape and total weight of the wheel/tire package. The wider you make the inside of the wheel, the weaker the unsupported inside is, making it stupid easy to bend on the 9 inch wheels when run on an EVO on a road circuit. Ask Robi about the 18 x 9 inch wheels he runs, how many has he had to replace cause they were bent to death. The answer will amaze you.

John are you saying 275 on 8.5 is ideal/ or is the stock tire on 8.5 ideal?

I just ordered 275/40-17s to run on 8.5 inch wheels. These will be track tested later this month.

Stock Tires are best on stock wheels, what a concept!

The 9 inch wheels bend easier than the 8.5s, I am sticking with the 8.5s

Fender rolling is mandatory with 255s, even more with 275s.

for road race a 17x8.5 +40 off set works great.

http://gruppe-s.com/Enkei/enkei_rpf1.jpg rpf1's are one of the lightest wheel offer by enkie(near 15lbs). An they dont cost as much , like volks .

also gramlights not as light as the enkie wheel , are great for road race

You HAVE to roll the fenders...

A few things to consider, are you on stock suspension?? You won't get enough camber to maximize 275 tires unless you run some good negative camber...

I have 17x9 FN01R-C and I plan to run 255 RA-1s on the stock suspension simply because with 275 you have to roll the fenders and have good amount of negative camber to take advantage of it.

TE37 and CE28 are good wheels...

Magnesium, no street driving, will bend for sure...

Forged for weight savings...

The fn01r-C are cast aluminum alloy... pretty damn strong...

SSR Competition wheels are lighter but softer and much more $.

The Enkei guys at the last Streets EOC event told me that some parts of the RPF1 are forged and other parts cast. Don't remember exactly which parts are which but I got the feeling they are very well made wheels. Anecdotes from BMW Club racers confirm this notion.

In my mind it's the best choice unless you only run on smooth pavement and never go off course.

Racing Hart's new CP F-Tune is also very light (19x10.5" is only 17 lbs vs. 20 lbs. for Volks TE-37) and they come in very nice black chrome finish. Very expensive though.
