View Full Version : SoCalEvo/EOC COMBINED EVENT Sun Nov 28th

Ricardon

Hey everyone! Well, it looks like we will have a very busy month of November. We are starting things off with the SEMA show, that many of us have been to or going to, we've got the big Time Attack next next Tuesday, and of course the SoCalEvo.net meet on the 15th. We are adding one more piece of EVO goodness for your Thanksgiving month appetite! Sunday, November 28th SoCalEvo.net and the EOC will be getting together for a large event at the Streets of Willow just north of Lancaster. We had been planning to make this the official November meet, but we knew that some were going to be out of town visiting family and the like for the holiday, so we decided to do something that everyone could have a fair chance of coming to on the 15th. This is something new! This event will be like any other SoCalEvo meet, and like no other SoCalEvo meet at the same time. This, my friends is the meet that you don't want to miss.

When:
Sunday, November 28th

Where:
Willow Springs International Raceway At the Streets of Willow roadcourse. (http://www.willowspringsraceway.com/home/home.asp)

What:
You will be taking part in the most entertaining SoCalEvo meet yet! We will line everyone up, just as with our typical meets, in the pits. There will be food available, vendor tents (with all the brand new parts fresh from SEMA), product giveaways and raffles. Best of all, you will get to be a spectator of the EOC's event. All of the EOC participants are SoCalEvo members, so you'll know everyone there. What we are doing special for our spectators is we will allow all of you to drive the course at the lunch break (there will be an enforced speed limit), and of course if you'd like a ride in one of the participant's cars you are more than welcomed, if you can convince someone to lug your extra weight around hehe! Many of the cars in attendance will be using this event as their final tune up and testing for the evolutionm EVO challenge just 1 week later, so you will see THE finest competitive EVOs in the entire country, and they will be turning some serious, serious laps. Like I said, there will be no shortage of entertainment at this event!! I am still reluctant to list some of the names of the companies that will be coming to the event, we would like to keep a certain element of surprise. Trust that there will be some household names there, but here's an example of some of the companies that will be there (some will be running EVOs on the track!):

Sparco
Enkei
APR Performance
Road Race Engineering
WORKS
RMR
XS Engineering
RNR Racing
(not even half the list folks!!)

Focus:
We are trying to get as many people to this event as humanly possible. I cannot stress how important it is for us to have a big turnout to this event. The EOC's participant list will fill up, we aren't worried about that, that's not the point of this event. There will be some MAJOR manufacturer's in attendance, and we need to put our best on to show them that we are for real and that we aren't some hole in the wall internet geek collection (although some of us like myself fit that bill perfectly  ). Our previous meets have attracted quite a bit of attention, and I can tell you that people have really started to take notice of who SoCalEvo.net is. We need to get as many people and cars there as possible to SHOW them what it is to have that many cars and that many great people together. Your enthusiasm has helped make this a great community, and our continuance and growth depends on that same enthusiasm.

I'd like to start a list of people that will be showing up for this event, whether you will be participating in the EOC event or coming along to take in the festivities. If you would like to actually participate in the EOC event check out the details in the EOC forum here, or go to the website www.evolutionownersclub.com . Have your turkey on Thursday, but save room for some EVO dessert on Sunday!!

I just finished moving into my new place. My garage should be ready for car work in the next day or two. If anyone going to EOC needs help doing anything minor yet last minute (like Brake pads, clutch/brake bleed, harnesses, MBCs) I'm available with enough tools for most jobs here.

So hurry and go buy whatever parts you need so that you get them in time. If you need a garage or tools or an extra hand, you're welcome to come to my house (Irvine at Bryan and Jeffrey).

No excuses at the track for not having something done in time....unless you're Orlando and your car is falling apart.

This is great and all, but take a look at the list. Looks like an identical copy of the EOC list we have over in the other forum. What I need is some people to get fired up about this who will be coming as spectators. Everyone on the list is driving...let's get some more people on that list who aren't.

Three weeks to go people! Fill the list.

We swapped them at the last meet (thanks Rob and Alfredo), but they are pretty badly warped. I am inquiring about replacements and pads...

They are warped all to shit. The judder is insane and it's visible where the pad is making contact unevenly. I am getting them checked over the weekend, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'm looking at just replacing the rotors (not the hats), so hopefully it won't dent the wallet too much.

That being said this'll be one of the best ways to learn what your evo is capable of in your hands and get some of the top tier instruction which could cost 1000's normally.

This will be a premier event with many vendors and press coverage!!

Some of the vendors slated to show up:

Sparco, Enkei, RRE, Works, RMR, RNR, XS, APR AND MORE!

Ok, cool! We are finally starting to fil the list little by little. Strange too, as this event we are offering much much more than we ever have previously! Those of you who are considering driving in the event...sign up and stop putting off what you have always wanted to do!! Those of you that are contemplating coming to spectate...add your name to the list here as coming out to spectate!! Ever since the inception of SoCalEvo, people have been asking for "something other than a parking lot meet" and ever since the inception of the EOC people have been asking for "An event that happens on a weekend". Well, we give you BOTH, yet people are not signing up! Hmm. These things cost quite a bit of money to plan and pay for, we make absolutely nothing on these events (In fact we actually end up losing a bit each time), so we gotta get these spots filled so we can continue to bring these events to the EVO comunity!! If not, well, we end up like everyone else and have to share track time with neons and civics and 240 Ithinkimadrifter types. If anyone has any questions, please just ask away! Thanks guys!

-Rich

I'm not understanding what different views you is talkin' 'bout? Of course you should show up! You go to other SoCalEvo meets right? What do you do at socalevo meets? We stand around, shoot the shit, have some food, maybe have a raffle....Well here you get to do all that fantastic stuff, plus watch people getting balistic on the racetrack, and maybe even catching a ride yourself or driving the course at lunch break. I dunno, sounds more interesting than In-n-Out to me, but then again I'm retarded. Not hazing the socalevo meets, I love the meets, this will just be more fun I think.

Yep, in case there's any confusion, the track day AND meet are on Sunday. You can show up whenever the track opens for EOC, which I think is around 7:30 AM. The driver's meeting starts at 8 AM usually, so all the drivers are usually there by then. I recommend that those who are coming up for the meet plan to show up around 10-11 AM so they don't miss the opportunity to take a tour of the track at lunch time.

SPECTATORS- Sunday is the day to come to the meet and go straight to the track.

Like Orlando said, you can come up whenever you want and stay as long as you want, but I would also recommend coming up around 10-11 so that you can catch a little of the morning action and grab a tour of the track at the break.

We still need 9 folks to sign up and those on the list who haven't paid, get your money in: http://www.evolutionownersclub.com/html/registration.html

You don't have a spot reserved unless you are paid. Please be aware that we will do tech from 6-8 pm at the Inn of Lancaster Saturday night and classroom and dinner(provided) in the large conference room at the hotel so anyone driving needs to be there Saturday night unless prior arrangements are made.

How much would it cost just to be a passenger?

The cost to be a passenger is free, unless you count the effort to ask people for rides and the possible hurling consequences if you drive with goku.

Sign up and see what these cars are really about :) Mark, I'm about to sign up and have at least one friend who will also make it (working on three right now), but not sure if Iwe can make the driver meeting Saturday night. Can I pay for two and show up early at the track for tech and orientation on Sunday? Please...

You can certainly do that if you want. Use the gaffers tape- it works well without hurting the paint.

Haha, was this really a question?

Newbie question, how much coverage should i do with the tape? I don't want any chips in my paint, so should i do the entire front bumper?

This is a common Evo owner misconception, probably brought about by seeing pictures of track days where people put tape on their headlights, usually in an X configuration. This is merely a safety precaution against the rare instance where contact or even more rare, a nice size rock, causes the glass in the light to break. The tape keeps the broken glass shards in and not on the track (where you might guess could be a hazard).

As turbrodude said, the tape will not protect your headlights or your paint from the size of rocks you will be worried about. The tape will protect against the tinest of flecks that you see worse of on the road on a daily basis anyway. If you are planning on going offroad, you might be able to protect where YOUR tires would kick up rocks at your side skirts, but you'd have to use about a metric shit ton of tape. It has nothing to do with protecting the car, really. But hey, everyone can keep thinking that it's doing them some good if they tape up their paint. It's like ground wires.

I disagree! with this as well, i have gone many times off track (like we all know-reason why i have the title that i do) and the tape has protected not just the headlights from being scratch but the paint as well. The reason why i tape the lower lip, since i hit thinks from time to time and it works!!! :P

I disagree!

Please tell me how a very thin layer of tape is going to prevent your paint or headlight glass from getting scratched or cracked by rocks? I'm not talking about little debris the size of (which your paint gets tortured with if you drive in Orange County anyway).

Knower
11-27-2004, 12:49 PM

You bottomed out your car into some soft sand? If not, all the debris that's hitting your car when you go offroading is from your own wheels and most of it is hitting your inner fender well where there isn't paint. The rest is hitting your sideskirts and very close to the rear edge of the fender well. You'd be better off smashing the rolls of tape flat and hanging them from the rear of your fender well to make mud flaps.

But hey, keep kidding yourself. When a real piece of debris hits your car and the tape is all distorted but your paint is magically fine, let me know.

To add something useful to the quickly derailing thread, whether you tape for the minutest of debris or not, staying on line is the best thing you can do to avoid danger of any kind. Going hot into a corner offline is going to put you into pebbles and scare you :)

Even though it's off-topic I'm going to have to side with Orlando, the evo headlights are ABS high impact plastic... tape doesn't do squat... it's quite obvious, just look at the amount of chips you have on the front of your car versus the amount of even one tiny scratch on the headlights... none usually...

GokuSSJ4

well last time i end it up hitting a small bush, and because i had tape in certain areas of the car (it was not scratch as others areas) also hittin cones and having tape can prevent marks on the paint (even doh they come out with wax)

Still really beat up, I guess I need to get more sleep (hold the virtual fishing comments) Yeah we went up to setup the track on Sat. night and it appeared that there were aready enough cones setup, and it was freezing, so we took off but I took a few laps around the track in Simon's car to make sure everything was ok. I came up to the chicane going about 60 3rd (as opposed to at the top of 4th when you have a helmet on and no passenger hehehe) and oops...kinda funny how you can't see any turns in the truly pitch black hehehe. Now I know why these 24 hour race cars have lights like they do....even with the highbeams on, you can't see a damned thing out there at night hahaha.

Great event, we hit a few bumps along the way, and behind the scenes things always seem to get a little hectic, but we slam through them and things go off without a hitch! The thing that makes these events so awesome are the participants and I am impressed with the community that we have built together more and more each day! The times that folks are able to turn, and the improvement that the newer drivers make at each event is really fun to see! Dave was good enough to give me a few laps in his MR, and I must say that I am was utterly blown away by that car. Totally stock, not a sinlge mod on the car, 3 weeks old, put out on the track where she belongs, and boy is that thing a screamer!! Thanks for the ride Dave, that thing absolutely rocks!!

I can't believe that Goku even allowed someone to take his title of SoCal Dirt King!! Here's a tip for you passengers or future instructors: When you see that you are going off track, SIDEWAYS ON YOUR SIDE, a) don't turn to look in the direction you are going and b) either close your visor or shut your eyes!!! That's the best dirt bath I've ever had! Funny thing was that after I managed to clear most of the dirt out of my eyes enough to open them, we started laughing histerically and the dirt that inside my helmet blew up into my eyes again hahahaha.

Good show guys! Awesome day, awesome times, good folks taking care of other folks, once again proving that the SoCalEvo family is the best EVO community in the country! Let's do it again!

A big thank you to all who made this event possible, it exceeded all of my expections. A special thanks goes out to Otto who is amazing in his ability to show the way it should be done. My only regret is that I had to leave before the final session.
I have been replaying the day over and over in my head and haven't been much good at work today because of it. Is this normal or am I a freak?
I now realize that the money that I was saving up for mods to the car will have to be spent on tires, brake pads, gas, hotel room, etc. but that's OK because I realize have a long way to go before I can drive my stock Evo to it's full potential.
