is it safe to plug a tire that's going to be used on the track and/or used well above 100mph? I just picked up a nail in one of my A032s. I've heard of a special kind of plug for high-performance tires but haven't been able to locate one.

when I went to sow with rich he patched his azenis that picked up the mother of all bolts and they were fine.

If tire is patched from the inside you should be OK not recomended but keep a good eye on the hole.

I would be concerned with the additional heat created by tracking a car and having the patch inside the tire become unglued. IMO I would strongly consider replacing it prior to any track time

hahahaa1!!

ok, well I guess I should've asked about patches too. there's got to be a reliable way to plug/patch a tire for track use. I've heard about people doing it and being fine, but I'd like to know how much of a risk I'd really be taking. could the tire rip apart or something nasty like that?

Patches are ok. Plugs are bad.
Unless you are going to try to break the lap record at the track and drive the frickin wheels off your car, I wouldn't worry about a patch. Plugs are bad. No plugs... just patch. Got it?

i dont see the risk, as long as the tire its fine(being able to hold air) then it shouldnt be a problem

Hey, i got a screw in the middle of the outter rib on my stock Advans. I know some tireshops won't patch it since its on the outter rib for liability reasons. I know other tireshops who will patch anything. So, is it safe to patch a tire if the nail is in the outter rib?

Here's a pic of a stock Advan and i painted the location of my screw in red color for reference:

so long as its not too close to the shoulder you should be ok.

I have plugs in all 4 tires and 2 in one of the tires. Havent had a single problem till about 4k miles after i plugged them. 2 of the tires dont hold air as well now, but i am planning on taking them in to get patched from the inside.

I know your probably all wondering how i picked up so many nails and screws. No, its not from rallying. In fact its from the house up my street doing construction and they never clean up. So if it rains or when they sweep everything into the street, i picked some up. Im half tempted to send them back their nails and invoice them for 4 new tires. Since i have only had these tires for 5k miles and nails in them for 4k.

So ya Plugs are a temp fix though, go get them patched!

I got about 1/8 to 1/4 left on them.

The only concern is that a plugged/patched tire will lose one speed rating (i.e. a Z-rated tire becomes a V-rated tire).
