View Full Version : Help Installing 4pt Sparco Harness w/ Harness Bar

I have done a search, and I have not found anything regarding this specific question.

How do you install the lap sections of a 4 pt harness with snap in latch while using the Sparco Harness Bar? The eye bolts they provide are too short to use with the harness bar. Do I need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get a different bolt? Since this is a saftey item, I want to make sure I am doing it correctly...

Thanks.
Justin

Justin:

If you're local to the Inland Empire (909) I can either help you install it or show you how mine is set up. It takes about 30-45 min.utes to do everything.

Otherwise, call Sparco or PM SparcoEVO for more information.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help

Unfortunately I am in the 949...I appreciate the offer...Did you buy a bolt? Can you snap a couple of pics?

I guess I can.

Please restate where you'd like me to photograph and I'll go charge up my camera.

If you could take a pic of where you are attaching the lap belts that would be perfect...Also, did you keep your stock seatbelts and latches?

I don't think I need to take a picture of that.

I attached the lap belt to the OEM connect points. So the first one is in the same connect point as the lower harness support. The second connects to where the other OEM belt went.

I left my shoulder harness installed (mostly out of laziness).
The buckels have been removed.

Remember to remove your center consould when doing this. It makes things easier for obvious reasons.

I know that is where the belts go, but the eye bolt that was provided is too short to attach to the OEM belt location...I have the snap attachement system, so I needed to change the bolt (I cannot use the bolt that was supplied with the Harness Bar).

The thread body on the eye bolts should be long enough if you get rid of the factory seat belts. Basically just:

Car | Harness Bar | Spring Washer | Eye Bolt

As far as I know, eye bolts do not come in various lengths.

Agreed. That's how mine is set up.
In fact, I think I may have even used the factory bolts.

sparco says that the harness bar allows the back seats to still be used with a racing harness, but for those that have the harness bar, could a person comfortably fit in the back seat, or for an extended period (2-2.5 hrs)?

Guys, if you have technical questions about the installation of the harness bar, please call Alan Viado in our office. He is our technical support specialist on harness bar, harness, and seat installations and should be able to walk you through several different options for installing these items. In the case of the eye bolt threads not being long enough, we do stock two lengths of eye-bolts and have a "long" version to solve this very problem.

Alan can be contacted at Sparco. (800) 224-7223

Tell him Scott referred you and he'll be more than happy to help, or shoot him an email at: [email protected]

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions, via PM.

Scott

Hey ill trade you some eye bolts. I have some bolts from CROW in my car right now but one is too long on the inside of the seat. So i cant screw my center console back down it wont fit.

Absolutely! The harness bar does not impact the comfort of rear seat passengers [period]. It does however limit how far you can tilt your front seats back. So anyone with long legs wanting to roll around like a Low Rider could be disapointed. The bar does alow the seat to recline some...just not flat.

I do have one complaint. It's more about my passengers then the bar. Every now and then I have a passenger who wants to fold there arms across the bar and rest their head on their arms and chat while we drive. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I hope you discourage any such behavior immediately. It's a great way to get hurt.

I got the longer eyebolts from Sparco and was able to install it with easy...I was also able to keep full functionality of my stock seatbelts, so that I can you them for daily driving and have the harness for the track...The best of both worlds.

Thanks for the help..

if you are using a harness bar then you dont need to use the eye bolts at all. The way mine is set up is simple. The harness bar was installed first(obvious) Then I took my stock seatbelts out connected the shoulder straps correctly. Make sure you get the degree right. To much of an angle can cause spinal injury if you have an accident. Look it up or call sparco. As for the lap belts...they connect right where the stock seatbelts connect. Its really quite simple.

HONESTLY, you shouldnt even have 4 point harness seatbelts unless you are running with a roal cage. If you do get into a pretty bad accident the harness seatbelts will hold you snug in your seat which is good if you have a roll cage. If you dont have a roll cage and your roof gets smashed in you may get your head smashed into your spine!!! NOT A GOOD DAY!!! The stock seatbelts allow more give so if you crash your body can move forward and you arent crushed!!

Nuff said!!

^+100000000000 but if you read the harness info... you should not have your shoulders pin to the back of the seat with your harnesses.... you should have enough slack so that you can touch your passanger's air duck..... (the one in the center next to the caution light switch)
