View Full Version : How many miles are you getting on your stock clutches?

I have 29000 and the stock clutch still feels good--although I hate how it engages so high from the floor. I've only launched it a handfull number of times.

when it engages so high, its better. that just means a quick dip into the clutch and you can grab another gear

30,500 miles and it just started slipping, getting it replaced at RRE on Wednesday for a ACT clutch. I never launch the car, suprised it failed so soon

Wow!!! Looks like people with half a brain can make the clutch last more than 20k miles!!! So if you kill the clutch in less, just shut the hell up about it and replace it.
By the way, I have 18k and its fine. I only road race the car... never launch it. I'm looking forward to at least 30k, hoping for 40k or more.

30,000 miles, 5 track days in the past 6 mos....no problems. I never launch the car, but drive it hard on the track. I also believe stongly that it helps immensely to have the clutch adjusted. They do come out of spec. Pete K at works adjusted mine at about 25,000 miles, and it feels like new. I'm aiming for 45,000 on the clutch.

Very first thing I do when I get my car is exactly what my dad does....
A) Drive around for about 50-60 miles and get feel for the car.
B) Drop the clutch and hit 100+ on highway, even though its probably not the smartest thing to do, he's done it with every car he's owned so far.

37,200 miles - Stock Evp, stock clutch, daily driven in So-Cal traffic, race anything that wants to play on commutes and cruises, maybe smelt clutch about 8-10 times, only street driven, rev-match on every downshift, high clutch engagement, it slipped more when it was new than now.

Nice... Its all about the driver/AWD. Ive become a WAY better AWD shifter just in the past 2 weeks/ 1,500 miles since getting my RS. I used to clunk/grind 2nd/3rd a little and 'soooometimes' it still happens. Ive learned to blip/match on launch/gear changes & I STOPPED downshifting. Downshifting is RWD old school imo. Thats what the Brembos are for. 1,500 miles and no more clutch smell on drives and less jerk/rocking from launch. I feel for the Laguna Niguel dude...hella hills there.

Who here isnt gunning for 40k!

i had my first clutch up to 24k then it went out.. lots and lots of spirited driving..few track days even drag a few times.. then had it changed to a stage two and the bastards that put it on.. put it on backwards.. from the shop that did the dirty work to home noticed sumthing was wrong and towed it to RRE..i only live a mile and a half away from the shop that fu*ked me over.. then had it corrected by RRE but only lasted a few miles after that (about 15-20mi).. from RRE to home then store.. and guess what happened on the way back.. it went out.. no1 knows how pissed i was.. took it out and was messed up good.. then an oem clutch put in and now have about 10 on that sucker and i expect a good 20k to 30k. it was a exedy clutch paid 1k for clutch and flywheel.. and both are now junk after about 20mi. oh wait! theres more.. did i mention that they also put the wrong fluid in my t case and tranny.. guess what happened.. lets just say it took 7k out of MY POCKET to get everything fixed!

48,000 miles. No problems. Never slipped. Autocrossed many times. Only launched a couple times during the "timed" runs. I can see why the cluch doesn't last long for some with that kind of pull!! Pretty frickin' amazing.. But I've owned stick shifts for 18 years and have never ever had to change a cluch. Just be nice to your car. Start from a slight roll.
