In that last pic, you can sort of see the curb I hit on the edge of the freeway. That's what pitched me into the air. I rolled and impacted twice (you can see the right rear and left front - 2 distinct impacts).

As for the wing, I actually had the presence of mind to look and see if the wing survived. After seeing all those Evo wreck threads on EvoM, I expected it to be intact. It was in a billion pieces.

Lots of cuts, a couple of painful bumps, but otherwise ok. God was definitely not cashing in my chips last night.

Thanks to everyone for the support and help.

I hope this doesnt come out as insensitive, and ofcourse first and foremost I hope your ok. I know when we see these pics were reminded to be more cautious as to how we drive.

My question was what type of wheels and tire size did you have? sorry to ask and I hope the best for you in getting another car of your dreams.

I don't see airbags. Did they deploy?

Macky

you can see the airbag from the steering wheel out in one of the pics

alfredob1

There was no airbag deployment. Part of what's left of his Monster Sport bumper is blocking the whole view of the steering wheel.

01-20-2005, 01:24 PM
why wouldnt the airbags deploy?

Blak94GSX
01-20-2005, 01:51 PM
The airbags are triggered by sensors in the front crush zones. Up in the fenders basically. If the fender is crushed front to back enough, the sensor gets crushed and the airbag goes off. Airbags use a pretty simple system so that they are reliable. No complicated computers with accelerometers and crap.

01-20-2005, 02:21 PM
Ouch but a cars a car. God was definitely on ur side. Good luck with the CHP.

dont the sensors need to be set off in a certain time frame for it to pop the airbag. I know when i rolled one of my old integras they popped. I dont remember at what point because it knocked me out.

But when i hit a deer on the freeway in my other integra nothing happened because it only crushed the passenger side fender the driver side was cool even thought the radiator was crushed into my header.

Update:

Insurance has taken possession and will pay me for my mods as well as the valuation on the car. I just need to submit my receipts.

To you young guys - KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!!!

I am REALLY sore today (2 days later). After all is said and done, I am really lucky not to be hurt worse. I am really glad the Evo is so well made. Now I can relate to those WRC in-car camera crashes...

kimletrim
01-20-2005, 02:39 PM
What insurance company is this? Most insurance companies will not pay you for your mods unless you specifically reported this to insurance and pay for it. Best of luck and get well.

Chris in SD
01-20-2005, 02:40 PM
It is AAA of SoCal. I asked about it at the beginning when I bought the policy and they said I just needed receipts. The field adjuster called and said he could tell there were a lot of aftermarket parts going on...

gofaster87
01-20-2005, 02:42 PM
Get some extra receipts. I know Im a bad boy but cant help but wanting to stick it to insurance companies. I dont think Ive actually made a claim in all the years Ive driven.

kimletrim
01-20-2005, 02:44 PM
Hey I have AAA and they did not cover most of my mods when I had a car totalled. Oh well, just get as much as you can for the mods. They say they will pay for the mods with the receipts but they will pay you pennies on the dollar because of depreciation and wear and tear. It would be nice to know the outcome if possible.

Chris in SD
01-20-2005, 02:45 PM
Yeah, I hope to get about 1/2 the value for the mods - even then, I'll get about $6,000 plus the value of the Evo.

I have tons of pics documenting the condition and the mods - I will arbitrate the value if necessary. It helps that my dad's an attorney...

Ouch! , but you still havent said what happened (did I miss it?). Glad you're are ok though. I'll take the STEEL roof of my Evo any day...

I'm SURE the curb didnt just come right out and bite you. What's the scoop? Did you or someone else clip? Were you going too fast for your britches an just lost it on a flick? Good thing you weren't in your S2K!!

That looks like the 163. I've been over 150 all over that freeway so I'm not talking smak =)

*chris*
01-20-2005, 03:17 PM
drmerl quote from 'big accident' thread.

Cliff notes' version of what happened:

I got on the onramp behind white Accord wagon

I got into the left lane while the Accord was in the right lane through an "S" curve-type onramp.

As we were making the final right turn of the "S", white Accord crossed into my lane.

I accelerated to avoid him, I believe I got clipped and put into a slide. I tried to correct the slide, but I hit that curb and flipped.

End of story.

thanx =)

Those damn Acorns!

I figured you have a good head on you, sorry it turned out this way.

I had an old lady pull out in front of me in my WRX wagon (totalled it), it sucks when you see all the metal bits crumple like paper in front of you.

hope the best for you in dealing with your insurance , IMO you should take a look at your policy. Since most or some insurance companies cover about 1k for interior and 1k for outside (like rims, body kids, suspension etc). receipts due some good but it doesnt mean that automatically they cover everything. or if they do, they determain the value of your mods; which can be sad at times :( (unless you have xtra coverage stated in your policy) hope for the best and fight every penny that you deserve for you car chris.

Hey Chris it's Zo from evo-ny. Glad to hear you're okay man. Your car was beautiful, it sucks to see it go out like this. Accidents suck. At the end of the day though, its just a car that you lost. Good luck with insurance. Maybe you can make some money out of the whole deal by buying the car back and salvaging the parts.

Insurance fraud is a crime. Why would he want to compound his problems with jail time???

Chris -- you are right you were lucky not to be hurt worse, and this is proof that the EVO is built like a tank. AAA is obviously good insurance since they paid for all your mods. When I wrecked my 350Z, I just pulled all the mods off, put the stock parts back, and sold the mods on ebay.
