I read somewhere that titanium isnt used for dp's becuase of the heat and thermal characteristics of it.

Ive heard the same as beaver. Who wants to spend $600-800 on a titanium downpipe anyways.

I sort of wish there was but like my man said 6 bills for a dp to save all of 6lbs don't quite seem worth it. I'm still trying to find a used ti catback.

Aren't titanium suppose to be more resistant to heat than stainless steel?

I doubt Ti downpipe would go as high as 600 prob in the high 400's or low 500's. If it cost low $500 high 400's I don't mind paying for one, but thats me.

I'd think so too. After all the upgrade for the turbo itself is a titanium turbine wheel because it's lighter than the iconel ?? wheel. Iconel is chosen for it's resistance to heat ( doesn't expand much etc ) and so if you put titanium in there you'd expect it to be at least as good.

ok guys look at it this way, everybody wants titanium so if it was possible dont you think they would have been producing it by now? I would if I could get 500 for a dp.

Gormless has the right idea - an Inconel DP would be sexy... in fact, with enough $$ and some skills, an Inconel exhaust manifold, turbo inlet and DP would rule...

Youre right chris it would be nice but money is a factor. I dont mind spending money on something worthwhile. The exhaust I have is fine(RNR w/ O2 eliminator downpipe) and spending a couple grand on an exhaust setup just seems like a waste. Saving weight can be done in other ways that are more worthwhile. Changing seats alone is a big weight savings. Cobra kevlar seats are 17lbs which are over 12lbs lighter than the stock seats and provide other benfits. Changing the battery out alone can save 20lbs and is not that expensive(100-200). To me, a titanium downpipe is not worth the money(it will be over 500).

On a final note the expansion rate of titanium would pose a problem with the welds cracking and titanium galls easily. A small scratch can lead to a crack very easily.

Sam's right. There are many better ways to save weight around the car. Saving 5 pounds at the bottom of the car isn't worth the extra hundreds of dollars.

True there are lots and lots of ways to lose weight and gain hP.

Taking out power steering, air condition, radio, and spare tire is free and about 50lbs gone. But I don't mind having a titanium downpipe, its not the bang of the buck mod, but it saves weight and u lose more than 5lbs.

500.00 for a DP.
You all have way too much money. I was wincing at paying 200 bucks for mine.

You really want to shave weight in your car
shave off your hair, take some ex-lax, and puke. That should shave off about 10 lbs

getting titanium exhaust is not the most efficient way of losing weight. but if you earn a pretty good salary or obtain a 2k a week allowance i don't see a problem getting titanium parts. anyways with enough demand i'm sure it will drive the prices down.

actually the jun exhaust is all titanium from the turbo back but from what iK now its around $1,300 just for the catback. But the entire exhaust system turbo back is a WHOPPING 9 pounds

Thats the problem the demand is not high enough to lower the prices. And say for the downpipe i doubt it would ever go under 500 or get to 500 for that matter.
