Recording procedure: car parked in parking lot area free of nearby obstructions and buildings. Camcorder and microphone were placed 45 degrees off-center, about 2' from the exhaust tip and 1' off the ground. Engine was revved to 1500 rpm, then back to idle, then 3000, 5000, and 7000 rpm. Recordings end with approximately 10 seconds of idle.
Sound measurements were made using a hand-held Radio Shack analog sound meter (set on fast response, A weighting, with a stated accuracy of +/- 2 dB) offset at a 45 degree angle from the exhaust tip, 20" away, 10" off the ground. (N.B.: measurements were made at 5300 rpm (three-quarters of redline) instead of the correct 4875 rpm (three-quarters of manufacturer's stated maximum HP RPM) due to misinterpretation of testing specifications.)
Disclaimer: sound measurements may not be accurate, should be used for informational purposes only, and should not be considered a strict guideline as to the legality of any exhaust system. Exhaust system sound depends on a variety of factors so your results may differ.
