guys im wondering if its worth the money to dyno/tune my 05' at tuning technologies? i have the basic mods currently (stock airbox, stock blow-off, stock downpipe/cat). currently tuning an evo at tuning technologies runs about 150-160 an hr. should i take the time to dyno it now to see the results of the apexi catback at certain boost levels tuned with an AFC or should i just save the dough and buy a DC Sports downpipe/cat delete for $200. So far i've done some 3rd gear pulls and tuned myself using my pocketlogger on 91 oct and am holding about .94 v safely with about 17 degrees max timng at the top of 3rd @ 1.4-1.3 bar

p.s. i know i should have dynoed the car @ stock without catback, but i was anxious to feel for an improvement after the install on my butt dyno.
Money also played a factor because i wasn't positive TT would let me do the 20 min swap while the car was still strapped down.

some good incite would be appreciated. thanks fellaz 8)

Keep going with the logger.
Put the money into the downpipe and ditch that cat. Do the best you can with the logger.
You butt dyno will be happy. :D

P.S.
Post your log when you get a chance.

if your going to be tuning with the pocketlogger you should really have a egt gauge.

i do actually have an egt and it does peak off roughly @ 825, nowhere near 900. should i lean it out a little more

imk currently running

-13% @ 5800
-14% @ 6000
-14% @ 6200
-14% until 7000 then -8% there after

im thinking this may be little lean looking by percentage wise , but according to the pocketlogger it shows a little rich. im gettting decent timing advance as well with none really being pulled, but i would like to know how far i can max out theses stock injectors before i have to upgrade. I hear many people hitting fuel cut also, but i have yet to experience it in my evo. (i do know what it feels like because i've hit fuel cut in my turbo spyder and its definitely unmistakable)

RPM TIMING O2V
2809 12 .92
3285 7 .94
3515 6 .96
4062 6 .96
4812 7 .96
5070 7 .96
5348 8 .98
5570 8 .96
5781 10 .96
6046 8 .96
6281 10 .96
6503 12 .96
6718 13 .98
6511 14 .98

Looks like timing was pulled around 6000 but was it a rich timing pull or what? seems it can be leaned out more gor o2V to be around .92-.94, but i wanna play it safe with those who have more evo experience than i do.

i logged this on a road that wasn't so flat as well. it was mainly straight with a slight decline (freeing up load), but i didnt think it would matter too much.

here is a log before i made some changes in a flat road off alessandro on riverside, not sure if should have changed my setting based on the logs above but should have reffered to these previous ones instead

3847 5 .94
4035 7 .94
4375 7 .94
4527 7 .94
4820 8 .94
5132 6 .94

5699 8 .94
5972 10 .94
6128 9 .94
6214 10 .94
6355 11 .94
6488 12 .94
6589 14 .94
6703 15 .94
6824 16 .94
6679 17 .96 then i let off

i can see timing being pulled around 5900-6150 range so i richend it up there as well as the 5410-5600 area. will timing be pulled do to a rich condition?

It can, keep making adjustments and logging it. At those spots, just give it a click or two. Lean out 6600+ too.

.94 is about right. The timing went down slightly at 5900ish but it only went from 10 to 9 degrees, so don't worry about it. If the EGTs are under control then the knock isn't excessive.

sounds good guys thanks for the help. should i lean it out more maybe a click or two like you said above or shuold i just wait for the downpipe and let it correct it by itself with the additional flow then tune it up then. i guess it would be probably up to me then right? when do yuo guys think i'll have to get new injectors, soon, or stick with a walbro fuel pump 1st?

Try turning up the boost slowly and see what happens with the timing.

What are the EGTs hitting right now and how much boost are you running?

SpoolinEVO

im hitting at the most 850 degrees @ 1.4 falling 1.3 bar

Blak94GSX

Try 1.6 bar

Try 1.6 bar

will the stock BOV hold that much boost? if so, what's the max PSI it will hold assuming its still relatively new?

Blak94GSX

They vary. Most will hold it, some won't. If it hits fuel cut, turn the boost down.

wouldn't 1.6 bar be too much for a midly modified car? worst thing i can do is hit fuel cut right? what hp rating would i be at around these settings? maybe 260hp to the wheels

If the AFC is in the ballpark and you are running stock injectors, fuel cut will be the safe limit. When you go to larger injectors, that effectively eliminates fuel cut and allows you to blow things up if you want.

So yes, keep turning the boost up slowly as long as the EGT is below 900C and the ECU isn't fuel cutting at all.

thanks a lot for all you r help. i'll turn it up a notch or two and log whats going on and i'll post a log for you to check out. do you think i'll be around that hp range?
