what size of rim are you considering ??
IMO i find the 17x8.5 +40 off set a nice all around rim , since you are able to use them for track as well as street. Being able to fit 255/40/17's tires and up to 275/40/17's (with abit of work involved)
if you are planing on doing the following things than what type of wheels and off set you choose become important.
are you planing on staying with the stock suspension ?
are you planing on getting a suspension tune by mueller ? (since he recommends 17x8.5 +40 off set
are you planing on upgrading your brakes to like (alcon, brembo, rotora big brake kit or stoptech) which all or most of them required an 18 inch rim.

If you're not aiming for anyhting too radical. Stock wheels are still badass. Gotta love those A046's. That's the ebst way to stay if you don't wanna head up to R compound tires. Like the A048 or the RA-1's. Like Goku said 17x8.5 is hot IMO. Running 245/40/17 on RA-1's is teh hotness.

I have 255/40/17s right now on my stock rims but since these tires are almost done i'm looking to go bigger. Can't seem to steer myself away from the RT615s so i'll be getting 275/40/17s in those. good quality/still affordable 17x8.5 +40 offset wheel recommendations from you guys(preferrably in black but if not then i can always get them powdercoated)? also i have stock brakes and i'll be on stock suspension for a while with at most bushing/sway bar changes but definitely not getting coilovers or springs any time soon.

first, wow for the ultimate necro bump

second, get a 9" wide rim at least if you plan to run 275 tires and want to use them to the fullest.

a popular choice would be the 5zigen FN01R-C's 17x9 +35

haha sorry jnizzle i didn't even look at the date. see thats what i get for using the search feature!

i read somewhere that 17x9 +35 with 275/40/17s wont fit on stock suspension. i don't have a problem rolling fenders i just don't have the $ for coilovers.

you think 275's will stock fenders?

It seems to be true what people say of Southern California residents. You guys are harsh.

yeah. so can someone answer the question since we're all here talking now. what mods need to be done to make 275s fit with no issues?

on stock wheels??? why would you run that?

Your going to need a rim size 9 or 9.5 wide.

17x9 rims at least. some fender rolling and/or pulling. depending on which brand tire and which wheel/offset you chose, you might need spacers to clear the suspension components.

I wish Paul or any of those who were able to run that kind of set up (275/40/17) would share what it took in order to accomplish it. I believe he mentioned no need for spacers or the need to pull the rear fenders; which make things a lot more interesting.
I left an email to muellerized on this same subject, since i want to run a wider tire than what i currently have on a 17x9+35off set wheel (popular by choice as stated by you XD :D )

I think I have heard the name Mueller somewhere before. Who is this member and what are his credentials. I know a couple of acquaintances here in Austin that have enlisted the services of Robert Fuller. Does anyone have experience with either of them?
