pretty sure this is BS but here it goes......

In a shock announcement, Mitsubishi Motors Japan released the concept and specs of the new Evolution X. The surprise occurred due to the fact that the current model (IX) has only just started production in the past few weeks. The most perplexing notion is the release date of the new Evo.

"We are so excited about this new car," announced Yushimo Katisho the market manager for Ralliart. "We couldn't keep it under wraps. It will be a huge leader in the market and should prove to be dominant in the WRC stage. This is one of the main reasons why the car is released now, so we can get the rally side working again."

"The reality of it," Katisho continued. "Is that we have two teams running development work on the evolution range. The team on the IX really were just creating a face-lift of the VIII while our top engineers have been working tirelessly on the new X."

So what is so good about the new Evo. For starters the platform is completely new, based somewhere between the CE lancer, Cedia design and the new CZ Tarmac. It promises to be smaller and lighter than the current IX allowing for gains to be made in rigidity and cornering.

The engine powerhouse is the first step away from the conventional 4G63 long motor design that served for so long. Keeping the short motor design and platform Ralliart have gone into development with HKS and Greddy to create an amazing twin turbo system that will rock the turbo charged world's foundations.

"With this new setup we are able to create peak torque at 2200rpm and hold that torque to 6900rpm and therefore extend that rally sweet spot. The most amazing development is the end of twin turbo gap and lag. This is like driving with a monster single turbo with low down mombo."

The 4G63 is boosted now with full and complete Mivec and extra capacity going to 2.5 litres which promises to deliver copious amounts of power all the way to the new 8700rpm redline. This being the need created for the new turbo system.

The drive line moves back to the proven 5 speed system for strength to cope with the new found power. The ACD gets more looks at with an extra mode - AutoX - for those tighter and twistier situations. The SAYC is further improved to carry 50% more torque from wheel to wheel and for the first time it is introduced on the front end of the car.

The brakes also get their first upgrade in years. Brembo is left behind and ALCON come to the party. The front brakes now support 6 pot caliper strength while the rears support 4 pot stopping power. The rotors are not left behind with ALCON curve slots as standard.

The car will be availble to the press in the next two weeks with sales expected to start in Japan around mid year.

yeah i agree...from the past, the evo changes every 3 production years. i.e.: evo 8 was 03,04, and 05...so naturally the 9 should go 06, 07, 08....the ten probably wont be available until late 08.

the company has had plenty of time to develope this car. from 03 to today the car has changed very little and the upgrade are mainly from parts that already existed. the motor is probably already built. i can believe the statement. once again the japanese will put europe on notice. Super car performance for a fraction of the price.

I have heard rumors that the IX will be a one year model run. These rumors are from people that are in the know and I tend to believe them.

More reason to wait and just keep driving the S2000....

So why would anyone want to buy a IX if they know a X is coming out? Those stats are pretty crazy too. If mitsu was going to release the X next year, i would think they would not want anyone to know becuase then the IX sale would be pathetic.

I got that same info from a reputable source at a tire company. I don't know if it's true or not but they do have close ties to Mitsu and claim that Some mitsu exec gave him those exact same specs. If it's true on those specs that car is gonna be BANK.

I heard this rumor awhile back. If it's true...well...I might have to have two EVO....guess that Porsche will have to wait.

I read in this month's issue of Sport Compact Car that the 9 will be a short run so it may be possible. But I think the specs are bull. 85mm bore and 88mm stroke = 1996cc. That's not 2.5 litres last I checked. But if the car had those brakes and AYC front and back that would be freakin sweet. Plus how are you gonna twin turbo a transverse inline 4? No AC, no radiator? I would like to see this car happen but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

at MOD mitsu said that the EVO X would come out in 2006 as a 2007 car :? that was coming strait for the guys working at mitsu i think that old japanese guy, I forgot who he was.

inst WRC held to 2.0l or less?if so what would be the point of all these enginers pooring all this time into a 2.5l? sounds like BS to me.

tabio42

Besides I don't think they would spend all that time developing a new engine when they have a 300HP capable engine that has been proven for like 16 years. Maybe bring back the VR4 motor though?

it sounds a little bit crazy to me...altho honestly it seems like every other manufacturer is beefing the specs for their upcoming sports cars so mitsu is gonna have to keep up...maybe this is "the new hotness"

I have no advance information on Evo X, but I did look on the Mitsubishi Japan home site and no press releases with this information are posted, so that signaled the flag...

Bevo's probably just seeing who would bite on this.

Hey, what's the thinking if you could get a new boxter S or wait for the Evil Ten -- which would you get?

Boxter is nice handling but soft. A little flexi. The absence of boost is missed.

The new Boxster is supposed to be phenomenal. Why not go test-drive one? Also, PM Evo Neil and ask him - I bet he's driven one.

The new Boxster S seems like a better buy than a 911...
