Lancer Evolution
Always Ahead of the Field

In recent years, the Lancer Evolution and the Carisma GT combined have won in some 30 WRC rallies. Tommi Makinen took four straight drivers' titles in a Lancer Evolution. In Group N (near production class) of the WRC, Mitsubishi vehicles have been driven to victory in over 80 rallies and have taken seven consecutive drivers' titles.

Mitsubishi launched the Lancer Evolution in 1992. Since then, it has unveiled a further six generations. The vehicle's fame and popularity both on the public roads and in motorsports rallies have grown with each generation. By 1998, Lancer Evolution sales had doubled compared with the 1992 level. The Lancer Evolution VII, launched in 2001, continues that tradition of success.

1992
Lancer Evolution I
Mitsubishi originally designed the Lancer Evolution for the world of motorsports and not as a production model. Integrating proven components and parts from the Galant VR-4, the Lancer Evolution made its rally debut in the 1993 Monte Carlo Rally. In its first two years of competition, it took five wins in Group N.

1993
Lancer Evolution II
The Lancer Evolution II debuted toward the end of the 1993 WRC season. Developed based on the feedback about the Lancer Evolution I, the second-generation Lancer Evolution took its place as a regular on the podium. The "Mitsubishi Era" in the WRC had begun. In 1995, the Lancer Evolution II took first and second in the Swedish Rally and first in the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. In Group N, it won nine rallies during the 1994 and 1995 seasons.

1994
Lancer Evolution III
In 1994, Mitsubishi unveiled the highly aerodynamic Lancer Evolution III. In 1995, it took first in Rally Australia. In the 1996 season, Tommi Makinen drove the Lancer Evolution to five victories out of nine rides, thereby winning the drivers' title. In Group N, Lancer Evolution III drivers took two WRC drivers' titles in a row.

1996
Lancer Evolution IV
In 1996, the Lancer Evolution IV debuted. Mitsubishi had redesigned the body and engine, added a powerful new twin-scroll turbocharger, and made the differential more compact. In 1997, Makinen drove it to four victories and became World Rally Champion for a second successive year.

1997
Lancer Evolution V
The Lancer Evolution V came onto the rally scene in 1998, taking first in four of the season's final seven events. In 1998, seven of 13 rallies were won by Tommi Makinen or Richard Burns, both Mitsubishi drivers, giving Mitsubishi the manufacturers' title and Tommi Makinen his third consecutive drivers' title. In Group N, the car added seven more class wins and a drivers' title to its by now lengthy honor roll.

1998
Lancer Evolution VI
The Lancer Evolution VI debuted in 1998. Mitsubishi had enhanced the aerodynamics and suspension. In the 1999 season, Makinen won four rallies and took the drivers' crown for a record-breaking fourth consecutive time. In the following two seasons, Makinen won another four rallies. In Group N, Lancer Evolution VI and Carisma GT drivers won 33 rallies, and took the drivers' crown in 2000 and 2001.

2001
Lancer Evolution VII
The Lancer Evolution VII boasts a high-performance engine and drivetrain that looks set to take the Lancer Evolution to new heights. With an outstandingly aerodynamic body combined with the durability and punch of a rally-tested car, the Lancer Evolution VII is for those looking for competition-quality performance.

The Lancer Evolution VII comes in two versions, the rally-ready RS version and the street-ready RS II version. Both are high performance vehicles loaded with features derived from Mitsubishi's winning ways in motorsports.
