Use this thread to post where you can find the cheapest gas stations or stations having special sales.

North of Chapman on Brookhurst in Anaheim is pretty cheap most of the stations there.

I just talke to a manager of the gas station we use to put gas in our dealer and as of tomorrow he going to increase gas to $3.30 for 87. He got word that that everyone should expect an increse anywhere from .30 to .45 cents tomorrow. $40.00 to fill up my tank at 3.05

Over 3 bucks for 87?? WTF... I would boycott that station...

Since racegas prices seem unaffected, i tried to see if mixing 105 and 87 octane to equal 91 octane would be more beneficial than filling up on 91 octane. Here are my results assuming the gas prices on the pic above and 105 octane cost $7.50 at my local station:

10.9 gallons of 87 X $3.25/gallon = $35.42
3.1 gallons of 105 X $7.50/gallon = $23.25

TOTALS
14 gallons* * 91 octane* * * * * * * * *=$58.67

Or 14 gallons of 91 X $3.45/gallon = $48.30

So, still looks like its cheaper to buy straight up 91 octane than to mix at the time being...

:tickedoff: ok so last night i spent 40 bucks to fill up my gas tank and today i had to put gas for a client's car and sure enough gas jumped up almost .45 cents. $3.28 for 87 and $3.45 for 91. This sucks. i think i'm getting a bus pass. Or maybe we should figure who works close to each other and we should set up carpools cuz this really blows :tickedoff:

or we could just go to the corporate offices of these oil companies and :knuppel2:

I'll post this here rather then starting a new thread.

There are a few ways you can more or less cheat a gas station, save gas and money spent on it.

Cheaper gas anywhere:
1. Use a credit card that gives you cash back on gas purchases.
* Citibank gives an instant 10% rebate on gas purchase. Discover offers 5% or more and so do a few other cards.
2. Purchase/Use gas rebate cards. Check around with your local HS, because they frequently send kids door to door with gas cards, rather then magazines and candy.
* Cards are normally good only @ one specific station. I'm fairly certain I've seen shell cards going around.
3. By cheap gas
* Every gas station aside from Arcco get's their gas from exactly the same place/container. Then they add their concentrates (same thing as their company fuel injection cleaner) to the mix. So why pay more for the same thing?

Save Gas:
1. Don't top off.
* Typically topped off gas will evaporate before it gets to your tank, plus you risk it spilling on your just washed paint.
2. A/C
* Rolling your windows down may create enough drag to waste more gas then your AC, so you can either swelter in the heat, or enjoy a cool breeze. It's up to you.
3. Run the lowests octane possible
* This isn't applicable to evos, but for other cars, you don't always get the best bang for your buck running Premium. Run the lower octane possible as suggested by the cars owners manual.

Good luck,

Blaze

Katrina Pushes Gas Price to All-Time High
Sunday September 11, 10:28 pm ET
By Jeremiah Marquez, Associated Press Writer
Damage to Gulf Coast Oil Production by Hurricane Sends Retail Gas Prices to All-Time Highs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Damage to Gulf Coast refineries and pipelines by Hurricane Katrina pushed retail gas prices to historic highs in the past two weeks, with self-serve regular averaging more than $3 a gallon for the first time ever, according to a nationwide survey released Sunday.
The weighted average price for all three grades surged more than 38 cents to nearly $3.04 a gallon between Aug. 26 and Sept. 9, said Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations around the country.

Self-serve regular averaged $3.01 a gallon nationwide, according to the survey. Midgrade was pegged at about $3.11, while premium-grade was at nearly $3.21.

"That's all thanks to Katrina," Lundberg said.

The spike occurred despite declines in the cost of crude oil in recent weeks.

The hurricane decimated refineries along the Gulf Coast, cutting 11 percent of the nation's refining capacity for all petroleum products and shutting down essential pipelines to the East Coast and elsewhere, Lundberg said.

On Saturday, more than 120 Gulf of Mexico oil and gas platforms were still closed and nearly 60 percent of the Gulf of Mexico's normal daily oil production remained blocked from the market because of evacuations due to Hurricane Katrina, the federal Minerals Management Service said.

Adjusted for inflation, the nation's previous high weighted average for all three grades was $1.38 a gallon in March 1981. That would be $3.03 in current dollars.

Lundberg said prices could drop sharply in the coming weeks by 10 cents or more as gasoline imports flow in and demand eases with the traditional September drop-off, fewer drivers in storm-stricken areas and other consumers limiting trips to the pump.

its funny to go back to the beginning of this thread. $2.88 in 2005, $3.88 in 2008...

33¢/year increase = more than 10% per year...
is that keeping up, or surpassing inflation?
iirc, inflation was 3% per year last i heard...

anyways, cheapest gas in costa mesa is at the following stations:
Arco

fair & fairview
Bristol & baker
baker & the 55frwy

Cheapest in Mission viejo area is at:

COLA has far exceeded 10% over the last decade. In fact when you add things up it almost costs double from 2000 to now. Basically you would be needing to almost make double to be getting by the same as then. May not be that drastic but its close. 3% a year increases every year since then will not cut it. Also if you recall the early part of this decade a lot of people took pay cuts, or had worse jobs after 2001/2002 time period. 2003 things began picking up again. I know of people that are barely recovering from that time period and now have to deal with this. Its a very scary and bad time for a lot of folks.

p.s. took that cost thing:

At least 95% of the time, I use Shell. The remaining times, I use Chevron if it's all that is close to me in a situation where I desperately need gas.

There isn't too much of a difference, though I know that some people swear by Shell, and some people (like Looney Tuning) recommends 76.

I used it before.Â* I'm not sure what kind of gas they have but the car ran perfectly fine.Â* I saw an de-badged 76 station tanker putting gas at the Cypress Costco on Katella. I can tell because you can see the old decal on it still. not sure if that's relevant to the type of gas they have though.

I remember a friend telling me that his forum dyno tested a car on different pump gases and Costco gas was one of the top ones. lol

Huh I wish 91 was that cheap. I remember when it was under 2 bucks but that was 10 years ago lol

Actually, super unleaded was under $2 in November/December 2008. I remember seeing it as low as $1.83/gallon at Shell.

Filled up at $4.15 yesterday at Chevron.

Took my Miata to Costco to fill up but the line was backed up onto the street, so I said eff it and went to a 76 nearby.

I filled up on Saturday morning before Cars & Coffee, thinking that prices would be down by then since the rebels in Libya were getting overpowered, plus the earthquake in Japan would result in reduced consumption by them for a short period, which analysts speculated would be the case. Unfortunately, prices didn't go down... I paid $4.07 that morning, which sucked because I had purposely held off on filling up in hopes of the prices going down, and by that time I had been on the low fuel indicator for 25+ miles, so I put in maybe 13.5 gallons. Oh well.

The McLaren was cool though!
