So I drove up to the Bay area this long weekend. I just got my ride serviced at 18000 miles. No problems while going up north. On the way back, about 80 miles from LA, I stop by Shell gas station and filled her up with 91 octane SHELL V-Power gas, 10 miles later the "Service Engine Soon" light comes up!

I slow down, not exceeding over 3000rpm, looked for symptoms, temp gauge is normal, shifting normal, no engine knock or other wierd noise.

What went wrong? Its got about 19100 miles on it now, and I just got it serviced at 18K miles... im confused!!* :tickedoff: :-(

Is it-
Light malfunction?
Shell gas bad?
Or Evo cannot handle a 1000 mile trip in a 48 hr span? I drove with A/C on 90% of the time...

Thanks guys!

This is why most evo owners should have a datalogger or code puller, it's the type of car which you will use it more than you think, especially with modding.

I've driven several times across the desert in the middle of the summer, during the day, AC on full blast, doing 85 mph from Phoenix to LA with one stop to get gas and water the garden. Never a problem.

Instead of jumping into assumptions, get the code pulled. That will be the only way to determine what your problem is.

Where can I find a code puller or data logger? Is this something you can just plug into the car's ECU and see what the error code is? Anyone willing to help out? I am in West LA area, thanks guys! O0

I got a code reader which plugs into the car's OBD II port. I'm in Marina del Rey. PM me if you need help.

You make the P0300 CEL sound meaningless and end of story. It might be more serious or did that code just get relegated to the backburner not deserving of attention?

HE said that was the first time ever he received the P0300 Random misfire code and he has a 2003 model! :-o If it ever pops up again, bring it to the dealer and ask them to reflash you to the latest software which "might" resolve the P0300 problem.
