i'm thinking of modding my 2005 evo after i finish break in. i want to keep it legal as possible. the question i have is are high flow cats legal? or should i just stick with just a catback? what's the hp difference from a turboback with high flow cat and a good catback? only mods i'm thinking of is works p2 flash, catback or turboback, and works drop in. thanks for the help.

Technically, tampering with the OEM cat is not legal...Even if you just move it 1" down from the factory location, its not legal. However, depends on how detailed the person is at looking at the car .

WORKS is coming out with a "StealthCat" that mates a stock core with 3" openings. That way there's no necking down from larger downpipes and catbacks. It's not a high-flow cat but it's still probably not perfectly legal in the strictest sense. It's down personal choice I suppose.

Funny thing is many hfc's look legal. Works is a perfect example. It would take a trained eye for smog cops to know....if your emmisions are good with the cat, then your golden imo

In CA u can't change teh Cat unless its over 50K miles, is not working correctly also if u do change it it has to be a OBDII C.A.R.B aproved cat or it will not pass CA smog natzi's. The only company that makes one its Magnaflow they have universal OBD2 cats.

sema actually promotes this law because it is just a ticket to go see the ref and to prove the exhaust is legal..
after that all you gotta do is flash the slip proving the sound level and youre set. (ive done this many times in my RSX)

when you get an uncorrectible exhaust ticket, what then?

cops cant keep the story straight. lets look at the word: un, a prefix having a similar meaning to "not". substitute the new word in, so we have: uncorrectable = not correctable.

so thats whats now
