I just ran across this thread (http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=11925.0) and felt that I really needed to add my .02.
To start with, I'm a Mopar guy from way back. I've owned a TA Challenger and a AAR Cuda. I believe that on the 7th day, God created the Hemi. With that said, we all need to remember that the 4G63 started as a group venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, this group venture was located in Normal IL and was known as DSM (Diamond Star Motors) Diamond from the Mitsu diamond logo and Star from the Chrysler star logo. This plant is now where Mitsu makes the Eclipse.
Now that the history lesson is over, let's look at the Evo and the SRT-4
Evo = Lancer on steroids
SRT-4 = Neon on steroids
Evo weighs 3197 lbs curb weight
SRT-4 weighs 2900 curb weight
Evo has 2.0 liter turbocharged engine
SRT-4 has 2.4 liter turbocharged engine
By all rights the SRT-4 should be faster than the Evo. After all, less weight, more engine. But the fact of the matter is, if an Evo wins a race against a SRT-4, the SRT-4 driver says "well your car cost $10,000 more than the SRT-4." If the Evo loses he can say, "your car is lighter and you have a bigger engine."
When I was shopping for a replacement for my 3G Eclipse, I was looking into the Evo, STi, SRT-4 and GTO. I opted for the Evo over the SRT-4 simply because of the handling. While pulling out of the dealer's driveway with the SRT-4, I gassed it a bit and the front end chattered from loss of traction. I did finish the test drive, however that first driveway incident told me the whole story. I did buy a PT Cruiser GT for my wife, and it has the same 2.4 liter, 225 HP engine as the SRT-4. For me, I had to have the Evo.
Now y'all know my opinion of the SRT-4 vs. Evo controversy. I own both, an Evo and Pregnant SRT-4 (PT Cruiser GT). now let's talk about SoCalEvo.net. This is an Evo club, not a SRT-4 club. People like us (Evo & SRT-4 owners) are more involved with their cars than the average car owner. To us it's a love affair. Nobody, but nobody, is gonna talk trash about the cars we love without a fight. So my recomendation to the SRT-4 owners cruising this board and getting their panties in a wad because an Evo owner likes their car better, just get over it. It's just a damn message board for christ sake. If you try to win a shit throwing contest on this board, you will lose. Not because the Evo is faster than the SRT-4, but because this board is run by Evo owners, not SRT-4 owners. We reserve the right to talk shit about SRT-4s, Rustangs, STis, or any other car we want to because after all, we all own Evos, not other cars. With this said, y'all can reserve the right to talk trash about the Evo on your own boards, but as for here, Evo is king.
