*UPDATE 2.25*
I won the case with TBD* O0

Didn't notice that my radar detector was unplugged and got zapped by a radar on the way home from work tonight. He was a cool older sheriff didn't mention my tint, no front plate or numerous other violations he could have written me for. He suggested I just go to traffic school, since I could. I'll be seeing him in court, or maybe not if he's a no-show and I win by default. If he does show, I have my defense ready to go. Tthere was another car beside me going around a blind curve when I spotted the cop at the side of the road, I hit my brakes and the car next to me actually passed by me going past the cop, but I was in the closest lane to the cop and I got pulled over. We were both doing the same speed when the radar hit us, although I was slowing down. From the distance the cop was from me, the radar band was covering both lanes and he could not tell which car set it off. This is the direction my defense will more than likely take, however I reserve the right to pull the tuning fork defense if need be.

Because I accidently unplugged it from the power source when I was adjusting my clutch? Hmmm. I know this has saved me from at least 20 times I would have been nailed. It was my ignorance that got me this ticket, not the V1 failing.

Sorry to hear about that most unfortunate incident. *Try to fight, if you've got the time, and as Kenny Rogers would say: "Gambling Man" * I've fought plenty of tickets, but won few, but if you feel wrongfully accused, I'd say fight it - it's all about the principal of the matter.

I'm not saying I was not speeding. I will contest the ticket on the grounds of resonable doubt as to which car set of his radar and the other car was going faster than me. We both hit our brakes, but I had the Brembo's ;)

Grant, not saying the V1 doesn't work, but this is not the first time you've been pulled over with the V1 in the car, correct? Seriously, I'm not doubting the V1's abilities but that is a lot of money to put into a radar detector. I suppose it depends on how you look at things and one's driving style. Still, If I were to buy a radar detector, the Valentine would be on the top of my list. ;)

Well, good luck in traffic court and please remember the traffic court mantra: Guilty until proven innocent.
A friend of mine swears by his Valentine One, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a product designer re-design the thing - it's not pretty. *For that reason alone, I'm considering the Escort, but I guess I'm pretty vain.

Yup, twice now, both times because I was driving like the radar detector was on. the previous time I had the volume turned down. I was lucky that time, no ticket.

One of the big things that bothers me here! Were you speeding or not??? If so take your medicine like a man or woman and quit bitching! This applies to all the whiney folks who do this stuff btw.

I don't like getting tickets either but if you let it out on the roads you have to be ready to take the punishment if you get caught. Last one I got ended up costing 3 bills by the time traffic school was done. He got me fair and square.

Not trying to bust your balls Grant just the way it is!

Oh and a Passport 8500 is every bit as good as a V1, possibly better according to some.

Blaze - I don't think Valentine has dealers/distributors anymore so if you want one for cheap it most likely has to be used. And Jammer are illegal. I think it is an FCC violation or something.

Jammers are only illegal in certain states, Cali being one of them. The passport x50 is just as good as the valentine and about 100 less. Havent recieved a ticket since I started using one and its dead on everytime.

Do you guys know if there is a surreptitious mount for the Valentine or whether the K40 is as good or better? I am in VA now and radar detectors are illegal. A bunch of Porsche and Ferrari guys here have K40 hard wired into their front and rear with the readout in the dash or built into the rearview mirror. If Valentine has something like this or if you guys know of the effectiveness of K40, please let me know... :police:

In VA, they have radar detector detectors. So, a cop will know if you have one. I've heard stories of cops confiscating radars even if its stuffed in your glovebox.

I also heard of stories people taking the front and rear sensors out of the V1 unit and installing them in the front/rear of the car for custom installs.

Yep, exactly why I wanted a hard mount - then I can tell the cop that it is my GPS or Satellite Radio giving a bum signal... O0

Heh, i'm sure cops get that excuse a ton of times, so betta be careful. I heard they have detectors that can detect the cops detectors dectors (if that makes sense to you). Unfortunately V1 does not have this feature.

Yeah it's pretty weak out here - I usually just drive the speed limit and be done with it... I want to buy a used '05 Evo RS to make into a track/autocross car and just tow it to events. Get my speed jones there. Bummer...

Chris, some detectors have radar detector detectors. You may want to look into something like that.

Was I exceeding the speed limit? Yes. Did I get caught? Yes.
Did I deserve to get cited? Yes. Will I fight it any way? HELL YES! I'll stand up and fight it like a man. It is my right as an American citizen to have my day in coart... Just ask O.J.

As far as the 8500 being as good as the V1, no way. I own both and althought the 8500 is just as sensative and reliable, it can'r tell you the following:
1 - Which direction the signal is coming from.
2 - How many signals are being received.
3 - All bands being detected if more than one band is being detected.

#1 = Valentine 1
#2 = 8500

Yes, everyone gets nailed sooner or later. Wouldn't that justify not spending money on a radar dectector just as it might support getting a radar detector?

Skiracer
11-17-2005, 01:22 PM
Well, if you're on a road with no traffic, no radar detector will save you. Radar detectors only work when the cop zaps cars in front of you and your radar receives the "residual" beams and/or the cop has his radar detecor idling in the "on" mode.. So, if you're on a road with no traffic in front of you, DO NOT SPEED regardless if you got a radar detector or not.
