Im tuning my evo myself with a safc, egt, and pocketlogger what kind of timing curve should I be getting? I have 720 injectors, fuel pump, mbc, bov, turbo back, and intake

anybody!?!?!? :?

you should get a cute timing curve starting at 12 and peaking at around 20

Start logging around 2000-2500, you'll seen your timing drop until you hit full boost around 3000.
@ 3000, your timing should be around 5 degrees. It should build steadily until redline and peak around (17/18) if you're running 91 and (20/22+) on 100.

Mine are .91 across the board. And you can hold a ruler to my AFR curve. O0

Also (a quick tip on logging/tuning) Make certain you get your car heated up before you pay attention to the logs. Typically for me it isn't until my 3rd pull that I get stable/consistant reading. After that I usually pull 2-3 more logs so see what my fuel curve is doing.

are you able to achieve this on your MR ?
since i remember you had some problems getting the timing that you wanted on your 03 (black) evo due to the flash..

Don't get me started on that stupid flash! :tickedoff:

But yes, these readings are on my MR as it relates to a 91 tune. I haven't had time to finish my 100 tune yet. But when last I looked, I had peak timing around 22 w/ my 91 fuel settings and 1.8bar of boost.

on 91 what should my O2 voltage be? is .96 to rich?

Shot for around .92 across the board. That's a pretty safe number.
.90 is getting very lean. .94+ is getting very rich.

Also, there is a FAQ in this section and on evotuners.net that that you may want to read before you start tuning. It explains most of it and you can find several example logs on evotuners.net.

.94 is very rich? I thought .94 was what you were supposed to aim for.

Blaze: You boosting 1.8 on 91 oct.? do you have headstuds? or any other head work? also, are you on stock ECU?

Thanks.

.94 is rich in my opinion. When I have absolutely nothing better to do, I will attempt to translate (roughly) what the .9-.95 O2 values can range/equate to on a wide band.

You misunderstood what I posted or I didn't word it well.

I did not complete my 100 tune for a few reasons. The only thing I did do, was turn up the boost to 1.8 and run my 91 tune settings (while running 100 octane).

If you really want to have na accurate AFR, you might want to invest in a wide band. Zeitronix is the ticket and you can log your AFR with a lap top. On my car there was a difference between what the narrowband read and what the wideband read. I have more than 50 logs with my wideband and I consistently get 11-11.2 and taper to 10.9-10.8 by redline and a bit beyond. The wideband on the dyno read a bit leaner at around 11.5-11.7 and tapering to 11.3 by redline. This was because the dyno wideband measures at the tailpipe.

The narrow band O2 logs, however, said that I was running rich. The 5-6 logs that I made with the pocketlogger showed 0.96 which according to what is being said here is rich.

I am more prone to believe the wideband than the narrow band. I usually use my pocketloegger to log timing since it is too complicated for me to log timing with my Innovate.

That's getting pretty lean for 91 octane. Since you have an upgraded intercooler you have some more insurance for detonation. As a site note, I thought the pocketlogger only read in incriments of .02 volts? Maybe i'm wrong. I havent used one in a few months.

Well first off, I've found that tuning by using a narrow band is pretty useless. When used in conjunction with the timing log, it can be a general pointer for whether you are too rich or too lean. But is is not an accurate log for your AFR.

You can have 91 across the board, and have a very wavey AFR (according to a wide band). Or you can vary from .89 - .95 and have a perfectly smooth AFR.

Normally, I tune with a wide band, then follow with the pocket logger primarily to get the timing down.

*Having perfect timing does not mean a perfect AFR. And vice versa.
