Do you move your radar detector and hide it when you are pulled over or its just not worth it to try and hide the fact that you have a radar detector?

I'd also like to know from those who leave the radar detector up if the cops say anything about it.

if the cop wants to be a dick, technically it is blocking your view aut the front window (like a hang tag on your rear view mirror) and that is illegal. but if he is going to write you a ticket for that tell him to shove it, start up and leave

[maybe don't do that last part though]

Bought my detector 2 years ago. Havent been pulled over since. I would say pull it off because I know people that have had cops become assholes about it even though its legal.

If you hide it, try not to make it too obvious so the cops think you're trying to hide a weapon or something...You don't wanna be pulled over and havin the cop shout at your with a Glock aimed at your head...

One time I had the volume turned down and got pulled over due to my stupidity. The cop told me that the radar detector was a waste of money becuase by the time I heard him, he had already nabbed me. Truth is, I would have detected him first had the volume been turned up. The second time the cop never mentioned it. FWIW, the first cop did not write me up. The second cop did and I will try the TBD first, then my tuning fork defense if I lose the TBD.

I too have a V1. Radar detectors are 100% legal in CA with the exception of 18 wheelers. There is no reason to hide it when you get pulled over.

I leave mine up. No need to get the cop all excited when he sees you shifting around in the car.

Mine's on my visor...I leave it since it is legal in CA as everyone mentioned...

Though...lately, I am noticing it is a lot harder to detect Orange County bogies with my Valentine 1 or Escort...sometimes I only get a split second notice before I roll up on the hiding cop...anyone else notice this?

it maybe due to the fact that they have a new "POP" mode on the radars.

Taken from mphindustries.com,

http://www.mphindustries.com/products_home/radar_pop.html

"POP is a technology that has only been implemented by MPH. It was introduced on MPH's handheld radars in 1999, and it has also been incorporated into MPH's newest dashmounted radars.
POP technology is aimed at an old problem - defeating radar detectors.
Ordinary radars try to circumvent detectors with a Standby or Hold switch. However, this method simply doesn't work with modern radar detectors. By the time the radar has been on long enough to process a speed, the transmitter has already set off every radar detector within two miles of the operator.

MPH's exclusive POP technology makes the MPH's radars the only ones that can measure vehicle speeds without setting off any radar detectors. This technology is only made possible by MPH’s expertise in manufacturing microwave sources that can turn on and stabilize quickly and by digital signal processing (DSP) techniques. The radar can obtain an accurate speed reading in milliseconds, which is far faster than an operator can operate a switch.
When the an MPH radar is placed into POP mode, the radar emits a short burst of energy when an antenna button is pressed. It quickly measures the vehicle's speed. The radar then goes immediately into standby and displays the target's speed for a couple of seconds. The entire measurement happens so quickly that the radar detector doesn't see it.
If the vehicle's speed is not a violation, the operator does nothing and no one knows that he's running radar. However, if the speed is of interest, he can place the radar into normal transmit mode, allowing the officer to track and lock the vehicle's speed.

MPH recommends that the officer obtain a tracking history of a speed violator by operating the radar in normal transmit mode after determining with POP mode that the vehicle is speeding. This is because most radar case law is based on tracing a vehicle in normal radar operation. The information obtained in POP mode is accurate and reliable, but may not be supported by case law in court."

i got pulled over with one and i just left it up but i only had time to unhook the power and hide it. (mine hangs on the passenger visor, it's not really visible to the cop) and i didn't get a ticket

i got pull over with the radar detector once. The popo look at it and said "that thing doesn't work and it's illegal". I handed my military I.D. and he reply "Have a nice day and thank you for serving our country", O0

Radar detectors are not illegal in CA. Hanging anything on the windshield IS illegal.

Mine seperates from the suction clip that mounts onto the windshield. So once I have been pulled over and I just disconnected it and put it under my seat. Shrugs. I was thinking of saying its for my navigation but this car is too bumpy so i took it off...blah blah blah but he never asked.

I want to get one, but since most of the time I follow the speed limit (or very close) it's only handy for the few times the sky is blue, the music's extra good, and I feel like havin some fun on my dd. Since that's pretty rare, I'll just take the ticket in that instance. It's cheaper then the detector.
