Infinity system/sub - how is it all wired?

Hey guys,
got my evo last week. white with SSL package.
love the car.

my question is about the wiring of the Infinity system.
regarding the amp under the driver's seat, does it ONLY power the subwoofer, or the speakers as well?
i believe it's just the subwoofer.

so that means that the speakrs are powere by the HU through the white harness that connects to the back of HU.

if i were to install an aftermarket HU i would be able to have full controll over the sub....i.e. turn it up/down and on/off......right?
i know that i have to get a harness and an adaptor for the wire that comes out of the amp and goes to the HU.

let me know if i'm not correct.

The amp powers all the speakers including the sub.

I just installed an Alpine 9855 last week using the Metra 70-7003 harness and it sounds great.

can you fully control the sub?
turn on/off without affecting the rest of the system?

also, do u know if the amp is 4-channel, 5-channel, or 6-channel?
