Well, here are the pics of my rear end after an STI crashed into me on Friday. I guess it is time for an EVO XI bumper....

Sorry to hear that, but at least the damage doesn't look too bad, seems to be confined to the rear bumper.

Please post details. Exactly how did this happen? Where were you on the track, what was the STi doing, etc.? This really should not happen at an HPDE event unless someone made a stupid mistake. :idiot2:

so what happens now?

does the STI driver pay for the new bumper? surely insurance isn't going to be involved for such a seemingly small claim?

Yeah, that's for sure. You'd be nuts to turn in this small claim to your ins. co. Even if they paid it, the next time (god forbid), they'd give you a real hard time.

Aw that sucks Justin.................

be careful running that IX bumper with no crash bar, if an idiot runs into the back of you again, the damage will be ALOT worse!

Lol funny story! Those damn STI's! What are they thinking! Last time I was at SOW my friend in his STI almost rear ended me....... But at least he's not like most STI drivers he at least acknowledges that our Evo's are superior! Wishes he can have one but his rents bought his car!!! Funny thing too his mom wouldn't buy him an Evo because she thought it was a "race car"

That's what I was thinking? If it was his fault, does he man up and pay for your parts or do you just eat it as part of playing the game? If there an unofficial rule book on this kind of stuff?

The guy was actually very cool about the whole situation and is going to pay for the damages. As of right now, the bumper, wheel, and alignment is all shot to hell...Hopefully there is no damage to the suspension...

I would have been really pissed, if he was such a good guy about it...I know it was done racing, but none of us have sponsors or on a race team....

How it happend still does not make sense to me...Gives me the point by, I go around him, continue on to a hard braking zone with a right turn..SMASH.....End of story....lol...He is going to need a new front bumper, hood, fender, headlight, and whatever else is hidden under there....

you guys should look into the rules before you get involved in the sport.

even though this is a hpde insurance isn't going to cover it and if they did , did would terminate your insurance afterwards

also these things are at your own risk. if you car gets hit even if its not your fault the other person doesn't have to pay one cent! just like if someone dies, the organization isnt liable.

in this case he was lucky no one got hurt and the guy offered but sometimes these things happen.

so be careful who you pass and drive around. have to pay to play!

I totalled my 350Z at the Buttonwillow Performance Driving Clinic, which is an HPDE event, and told my regular car insurance company the truth about what happened.* They covered the loss and paid me more than I thought the car was worth.* If there is no racing and no timing, many (but not all) insurance companies will cover the loss.* That was a year-and-a-half ago, and my insurance did not get cancelled.

However, I wouldn't turn in some little claim like damage to my bumper, it will end up costing you way more than just fixing it yourself.

I never said the guy had to pay....He offered and it made it all the better...However, if your in the advanced group you should have better car control than that..

Point of the story, the guy was great and is taking care of my car...

BTW, this isn't Days of Thunder, "Rubin is Racing" is not the moto at these events....

This is why I'm afraid to take my EVO out on the track for an HPDE event. I've been thinking about picking up a cheap SPEC RX7 or PRO7 (ITS RX7) racecar and taking that to the track. If it goes off the track or gets banged up, I won't feel so bad.

It's true that the level of danger does increase when signing on to do an HPDE event but that dosen't mean it's not safe. I've attended countless track events and have been an driving instructor for 4 years. I can only count on 1 hand the number of car to car contact I've seen. It rarely happens. It's just something you need to be aware of when signing on for the event. In your case, you'd be starting in the beginner group, where I have never seen car to car contact (just lots on spins.... ;) ). Besides, how can you deny yourself the feeling of taking your car out to do what it was designed to do!!
