What do you mean the BMW has shitty maintenance. You don't have to worry about maintenance at all for the first 4 years or 40k miles. Their reliability on the X5 has improved since it has been running basically the same since its introduction. It is a spoty SUV.

I would be worried about the Range Rover Sport. Although fast, it is by no means sporty. It is the first year of production for this vehicle so I would be worried about reliability and breakdown on certain parts. Parts from the UK might take longer to get.

As for the Porsche, I don't even consider it competition in this segment any more. It was ugly and remains ugly. Its got a nice V8, but it doesn't do anything to really set itself apart from other cars in its price range.

my parents have owned an X5 3.0 since it first came out and theyve had pritty much no problems with it at all and the dealer has been really good with small stuff that needed to be done. I think the ranger rover sport looks really cool but i have no knowlege about it more then what ive read in mags which always give it pritty good reviews. As for the Cayenne i think its just wrong that Porche made and SUV.

X5 4.8is or XC90V8. The range rover is way too heavy and so os the cayenne

My friend's Cayanne S had a ton of electrical problems..

My mother currently drives a Cayenne S. She's put like 40k miles on her car in the last... Year and a half I think? She's a realtor.

There are two issues specific to the Cayenne S version (not the turbo or non-S version) that I can think of right now:

1) wheel vibration. Because of the 20 inch rims and the weird suspension or something, the cars were prone to bad steering wheel vibration. No it wasn't a balance issue, brake issue or allignment issue, I guess it was something with the suspension. This can be fixed by the dealerships under warranty.

2) the Navigation program and door locks (i think) went haywire. Like the Navigation program was just all weird and the doors would lock and unlock randomly. Problem fixed by the dealer under warranty, no return of the issue.

Honestly, its a DAMN NICE SUV. Better than the X5 and the range rover by far, but it is quite expensive, the wheels wear fast, brakes wear fast, repairs are HORENDOUS! ($3500 for a minor rear bumper ding) Oh and the gas mileage is just like your Evo at a track day.

My vote... Get a Turbo Cayenne instead of your three choices :)

Why not an FX45? It'll be cheaper by far than the other three to buy, maintain, etc. It comes pretty much loaded (something the BMW and Porsche will kill you on - options).

Just a thought...

when i said BMW has shitty maintenance i meant because i hear alot of problems about their cars...i know about their free maintenance and stuff like that, but wouldnt it be a hassle to have the car in the shop more often then it has to be?

my dads really interested in getting a BMW...and im gonna at least make him get the 4.4L if he does decide to...but i just wanted to know your experiences/personal reviews on these cars

the porsche he doesnt really like...i just threw it in because its a porsche

the range...that would be an option but i dont know too much about it...and i heard that jag makes range...and they've had some problems too?

i just dont want my dad to buy an SUV and have it in the shop more then its on the road

If you're looking at Infinity SUV's, just forget it according to Forbes.com
Least Reliable: Infiniti QX (slide 1 of 2)

Base Price: $50,300

According to Consumer Reports, Infiniti's QX SUV is the least-reliable car on the market. It is 300% less reliable than the average car.
We actually enjoy the QX quite a bit, both for its opulence and for the way in which its luxury melds with its sheer size. You can count on one hand the other vehicles that compete against the Cadillac Escalade. But in Consumer Reports' most recent tests, the QX received ratings of "poor"--the lowest possible--for the reliability of its electrical system, brakes, body integrity, power equipment and body hardware.

The BMW X5 is probley the one I would go with, and the Porsche Cayenne as the Second.

I haven't driven a X5 so I cant say much about them. But I drove a Cayeene S and they are pretty nice cars.

DO NOT GET THE RANGE ROVER SPORT: At the dealership I worked at we took one range rover in on trade and never again only because they have so many problems as far as Check Engine Light, and other mechanical things that some of the stuff their own techs cant fix

yea, i think my dads pretty much set his mind on the bimmer. i was throwing the other options at him...a cayenne would be sweet but not if it has the crazy problems that it does.

hopefully he'll let me buy my evo before we get an X5...i want him to at least get the 4.4i. the 4.8i seems a bit pricy for only bein .4 more..haha. its probably the standard options included between the two im guessing...

Have him take a look at the XC90 V8. The performance from both cars are almost Identical and the Volvo is way cheaper than the X5. X5 0-60 6.8 Volvo XC90 0-60 6.9. Both have 4.4 Liter Engines and there's like $7,000 off brand new 2005 XC90's

Since your a so cal member you get hooked up. We have only one left. It's Black Sapphire with Taupe Interior. It has every option except fot navigation but it has the Rear Seat Entertainment system which is the DVD player and the two monitors in the front headrests. MSRP is $52,980 + T&L your price is $45,000 + T&L. This is like a $26 dollar profit deal for us but we just want to get it out of here. Any questions let me know

We're done for 05's we only get 06's. Volvo stopped production of 05 models in June but we can always do a search for whatever is out there. The only problem is that everything is pretty much scarce right now. We only have 3 2005 cars left and they are the V8 and 2 6 cylinder SUV's. Evrything else we're sold out of.

Volvo in the SA Auto mall. My wife and I walked up to test drive and check out some S40's and noone would come over to help us. At all. We went on a scavenger hunt for someone and found a manager who said he'd get someone to help us. Noone ever came over so we went back to the guy and he said he was busy that day and we should come back later.

Both of us were in business professional attire (stopped over there on the way home) and we were serious about getting a car (my wife had just totaled her neon). Also, there wasn't a single customer in the place and in the 30 minutes we were there, noone had come back from a test drive or left for one. Never saw any salesmen anywhere.

The next day we bought a Mazda 3 instead.

Adjusted Invoice or your price that We can sell you the car is $49,977 + T&L and I'm throwing in the Maintanence for 4years/45k miles. Just so you are aware I don't have thiscar in stock. I found a few of them out there but I used a similar in stock car to get you the price. The Price is good until the end of the month because starting January 1st there is a 1% price increase and the incentives change. Talk to him and let me know what he wants to do. If it works out and is he is set on black on black I can take a $500 Refundable deposit and secure the car and have it transported to my dealership. ;)

Just for comparison reasons a comparable BMW X5 equipped like ours is $60,345. There are no incentives on BMW's and discounts are rarely given. The BMW also does not have a rear seat entertainment system as wellThe volvo does have a 3rd row seat + more interior space and Volvo Safety. If he has his own business it has a gross vehicle weight of 6,050 lbs that can make a nice tax write off for him.

Between the BMW or the Volvo, it would depend what your priorities are? If you want all out safety and roominess, go for the Volvo. If you want sportiness in the SUV and like less interior room, go with the BMW. I prefer the BMW since it has an attractive body style, performs very well for its class, first class interior and ergonomics and also has maintenance included for the first 4 years. Still, if I wanted a third row seat, the Volvo is a nice choice.

DruMMinStUd06
