I'm sure now we are going to get people saying*they don't like it because it looks like an evo 9.

Call me skeptical, but I don't see how it could be the X unless the roofline was changed dramatically from the concepts. And before you say, "Duh those were concepts", consider that the last 2 Eclipse concepts damn near matched reality. They might be testing Evo X drivetrain/driveline components in a IX body, but I am 99% sure that is not a X's profile.

I found some other pics too but from what I read the chassis is Evo X but they are using that body as the mule. The pics that I found looks nothing like that one or at least the front end. The front looks like it came from a regular lancer

It looks like the intake system is on the other side compared to the 4G63 currently in the Evo. Look at the add-ons on the hood... Probably trying different configs to see what flows best. Cool find, btw!

2 exhaust O0

I dunno....twin exhausts bother me on an I4. just seems superfluous. "blingy", if you will. and the fact that it's based on the dodge caliber platform bugs me too.

oh well, if it significantly outperforms the current evo then I'm sure I'll forget about all that and get one.

I dont think its TWO exhuasts, just looks like its now going to come out on the left instead of the right and if the intake is on the right then its most likely a diff engine entirely.

Anyone know if DODGE or Mitsubishi has an engine that would fit in the space of the 8 or 9 engine bay and has the intake on the right (drivers view) as I dought they had enough money to develop a completely new engine unless its a 4g63 flipped the other way. Oh WELL either way It should be nice O0

I see two pipes there, as they have on the concept x. also, everything I hear is that it'll be a completely different engine, not based on the 4G63.

Yeah, I hear it's all new (chassis, engine, suspension, etc.). Plus Jeff's a smart guy (even if his girl does want a Tiffany engagement ring... LOL).

damn dont u guys see that this isnt "the evo X" its just a car they put some of the EVO X shit in for testing. do u really think they would just release a car with all the shitty panels put on and cuts outs all over the body. i posted the pics cus i though it was interesting that they were already doing some testing with the car.

We know, man - we're just commenting about which parts they're testing underneath, whether those parts are all new, etc. No one's dinging you - in fact, I complemented you on a nice find. O0

np man, i really hope it doesnt have duel exhaust its just extra weight, but i also dont think thats what they have on the test car if u look the two cut outs arnt really cut the same, they could also be testing multiple exhausts on that car.

It could be either one (dual exhaust or testing out arrangements). Keep in mind that the S2000 has dual exhausts too (but most guys dump them first for the 50+ lbs of weight savings).

I just hope it looks good - I am sure the mechanicals will rock.

Please remember, The Evo X's Lancer platform was developed by :mitsu:, not DCX. They are using it for their vehicles (Caliber and Compass :-P), and even then, they are VERY different from the next Lancer and Evo. This won't be like the whole Dakota/Raider thing. And as for the crap widebody kit look, development mules are for beatin' on, the gnarlier the better!

All of us can only hope that this is true, what a disappointment it would be to have the X look like the IX. You would figure that the "X" would bring about something dramatic.

I've been to the desert in NV where alot of car companies test their cars...concepts are usually in "shells" to test the moving parts. Later in development they are put in an actual "production" style body.

I wish I had some pics...but basicly I saw BMW and Saturn testing cars out there. Some of the BMWs where in "production" trim with covers to hide the design a little bit...while others looked more like full on race cars with only a couple of seats, no carpets, and not much of a dash...that was a "shell" or in the case of this thread's earlier references a "mule." Saturn was testing their ION and it was full trim with a huge "bra."
