any of you guys familiar with this ?

OK, this is a common question that keeps coming up, despite requests to search the forum.

So, here's a definitive guide to putting files on your SE phone.

Connectivity

* Bluetooth (USB Bluetooth dongle/adapter needed)
* IrDA (USB infra-red adapter needed)
* USB Cable
NB: Listed in order of data transfer speed, with Bluetooth being the fastest. Not all SE phones have bluetooth.

I recommend Bluetooth as being the best form of transfer as it's the fastest. You can pick up a bluetooth dongle for about £15 (~30USD).

Software
Your SE phone should have come with a CD. This CD contains software for browsing files on your phone (along with some other stuff too), but I find that the best software is FloAt's Mobile Agent (FMA).

Quote:
FMA is a powerful phone editing tool allowing users to easily manage all of the personal data stored in their phones, via a number of different connections methods. FMA allows easy management of Phonebook (both SIM and Phone memory), SMS, Profiles, and Files stored on the phone. FMA can also allow you to pickup and dial calls directly from your PC.

FMA is a SMS Manager, Mobile Phone Monitor, Remote Control Agent, Phonebook Manager, Organizer, Fun and much more; whatever you want it to be, it is whatever a mobile phone should have :-) (Currently based on Sony Ericsson T610 features set).

FMA is primarily designed for the T610, however it works with all of the latest SE phones (including K700i and S700i), however some P800 users have had problems using it.

Click HERE (http://fma.sourceforge.net/index2.htm) for more information, and download instructions etc.

PC Setup
Once you have installed FMA, and installed the software that came with your Bluetooth/IrDa adapter, or cable, and you are sure that it is working properly, you will have to setup your PC so that it can detect your phone.

If you are using bluetooth, make sure your adapter is plugged in. Then go to Control Panel, where you should now have the option Bluetooth Devices, possibly indicated by the bluetooth icon. Double click on this and then click Add to add a new device. Then turn on bluetooth on your phone, ensuring that Visibility is set to "Show Phone".

If you have done this correctly you will now be able to see that your PC has found your phone. Click Next.

The default passkey for any Sony Ericsson phone is 0000. In the bluetooth wizard on your PC, click "Let me choose my own passkey", and enter 0000. Click Next.

Your phone will then ask you for the pass code, enter 0000. If done correctly you should now have added your PC as a device on your phone, and your phone as a device on your PC.

The Bluetooth Wizard on your PC will now tell you which COM (serial ports) to use, for both outgoing and incoming. Take a note of these.

FMA Setup
Now go to the Bluetooth Devices window that you accessed earlier through the Control Panel. Your phone should now be displayed in the "Devices" section. Click on the phone, and then click Properties.

Take note of the Address - you will need this to set up FMA.

Open up FMA, and once it has loaded go to Tools > Options. Then click Native Bluetooth, and enter the address, leaving Port as 0, press OK.

Finally, go to Phone > Connect in the toolbar menu on FMA. You should now be able to connect your phone.

You can now upload pictures (.jpg, .bmp, .png, .gif etc.), themes (.thm), games (.jar), and ringtones (.mp3, .mid), by clicking Actions > Upload. You can also browse the phone folders using the file tree on the left of the window: Pictures, Sounds, Themes, Videos, etc.

By browsing these files, you should be able to download them from your phone to your PC.

NB: Games are protected, you can not download games from your phone to your PC.

Other
Users of Vodafone branded Sony Ericsson phones may have trouble playing MP3's, or using them as ringtones. This is because the MP3 files need to be DRM encoded for them to work. You can do this by using the Sony Ericsson DRM Packager software. Just search for it in Google.

I hope this helps, and will reduce the number of repeated questions.
