when you order stuff on his store you can/should be able to select "local pickup".

but yeah send him a PM and there's always a way to get your stuff without shipping, no problemo.

Hey...wow...just saw this now....yeah i can do local pickup. I guess it would be good if I put where i'm located when you choose local pickup.

What item were you interested in? I'm working overtime adding parts to the site every day. I still have probably a hundred more items to add to the store. I can pretty much get anything your heart desires minus a few proprietary shop only brands like buschur and RMR (soon though).

ususally the mild steel is coated with a rust resistant coat. I dont think the mild steel pipe is that prone to rust problem though. I think the stainless is more for the shiny look IMO.

the only difference in the mild versus stainless steel is that its subject to corosion correct?

Stainless steel is less thermally conductive than mild steel. This means that in an application like a downpipe, the stainless steel pipe will help keep heat inside the pipe. This helps keep the air moving quicker, hotter for the cat, doesn't burn your oil pan, etc. There are of course many grades of stainless steel, the most common for exhaust systems being 304.

On the downside, stainless steel does weight slightly more (around 2.5%) and of course it costs more.

waiit less thermally conductive is bad the cooler the exhaust gases get the slower they moce because they become more dense where as the hotter pipe will improve flow

Less thermally conductive means that it will keep the heat inside hotter. It does this because the Stainless steel will not "soak up" as much heat. For the same reason, stuff on the outside of the pipe like your oil pan, oil filter, etc will not have a chance to heat up as much. You don't want your oil pan to get uber hot.

Flow wise, cooler air will move slower. Stainless steel keeps the air inside hotter. Either pipe should work fine for you, though you may want to consider wrapping the mild steel pipe. If you still want more "flow", you should make your O2 housing outlet diameter match your downpipe's inlet diameter (or vice versa).

Hey trannb, I understand that between ST 304 and 316, 304 has more iron than 316. Will that affect the heat in any way or is it overkill to get 316 over 304?

Hey trannb, I understand that between ST 304 and 316, 304 has more iron than 316. Will that affect the heat in any way or is it overkill to get 316 over 304?

I don't have any strong numbers on the iron content of 304 vs. 316, but what I know is that 316L (the one that is commercially available for exhausts and such) is low in carbon. It's typically used for marine exhausts because other grades of stainless will corrode in that environment.

321 is the typical next step up for exhaust systems. Would it be overkill? It's really up to you and your needs. It will cost much more to build because it's harder to bend and it's harder to cut. It's also not as readily available in 3" diameter pieces whereas you could buy 304 from basically any decent exhaust shop. If what you're trying to achieve is to keep the most heat inside, there are cheaper ways of doing it. Thermal wrap is one way, ceramic coating is another. If for some obscene reason you're making your downpipe glow at 3/4 throttle and your fuel and ignition are tuned perfectly and you have lots of money burning a hole in your pocket, maybe you should look into Inconel.

Uh oh . . . .

RRE, Buschur Racing, and Quantum Racing are the only places to purchase new JICs set up by me. We have found the only way to provide a proper level of customer service with each product is to only have dealers that have a shop location carry our products. Remember, all of my suspensions are tailored for a particular individual's needs, getting a great deal on a secondhand suspension will not be the best way to achieve one's performance goals.

Thanks for your interest.

Black badges are still in transit from the UK or Japan, wherever my supplier gets them from.

THere are no black mitsu badges i found out. The FQ MR has the black Evo 8 badge, but the logo is still chrome looking.

Ceramic Coatings are a great way to keep the heat in your manifold, downpipe, and exhaust. Mild or Stainless steel will see the benefits.
