How to back up into your parking spot:

1. pull forward to starting position
2. put gear in reverse
3. proceed to back up
4. stop and repeat 1.
5. repeat 2.
6. repeat 3.
7. stop
8. open door and lean head out to see the parking lines
9. drive on line into parking spot -- (remember to stay on line)
10. disclaimer...this only works with Ralli Art "JDM" mirrors.

For those who do not roll with these rare parts follow these directions.

1. pull forward to get into position
2. look in mirrors at parking destination
3. Put in reverse and back into space.

and for the record, that is how you back up a lambo. it is sufficiently impossible to back one up without the door open and the driver hanging out. laugh at me now, but when my car has a value somewhat close to a middle income house, it will be no joke

and if you are wondering, what you see outside a LHD driver's mirror in a RHD mirror set? well i'll tell you. you see yourself of course. to tell the truth, if i am driving down the road and look in that mirror, this is what i can see (remember those bitches are small): my left arm resting on the window sil, left shoulder harness, and my rippling biceps :2funny: to make this a safe operation, i have moved my center mirror more to the left, so i can see the driver's side pillar of the wing and my hat (with a beautiful cavallino looking back at me) it also reduces the blind spot from horrendous to very bad.

can we make a forum that is restricted to 909ers only? because just like at the meets where we talk shit and tear up each other, we do that on the board (OC seems to do the same, yet they dont have to put up with this). basically we see the board as na extension of the meets. when an outsider comes in the middle and trise to talk shit with the rest of us, its just not gonna happen.

just like you would be none to pleased if i came to a WLA or OC meet and told all of you how it was, despite not being a WLAer or OCer. imagine if i took on the personality of cris at an OC meet when it is virtually my first time comming out. you would think im an asshole huh? same thing apples here.

Having me as your local moderator does not mean you're free, by any means.

Terrick, your "shit talk" thread got out of hand. Which is why it was locked in the first place. The fact that it was funny as hell, was why it was a sticky specific to the 909 in order to torment Shaun.

Regardless of where in the forum you all choose to post, we need to remember that threads/posts are visable to all members. As such, they need to be kept as civil as possible since this is a work safe forum.

The OC crew keeps their smack talk localized to the OC meets thread as far as I can tell. When new thread/subjects show up in a "new posts" list, other members do not necessarily know which forum they belong to, nor do they likely take the time to research it.

So no big deal. Try to keep the smack talk inside the 909 Meets thread, 909 Gossip shop or other thread specific to the 909. And if you start a new thread, keep the language and inuendo work safe.

those are the mirrors used on a FQ400 - this is the main reason for the purchase.
they were a good price - motivation to get them, either now or later, might as well be now

i knew the vision would be less than optimal, but i had no clue that my driver's side mirror would be completely useless, as it is now. its not so much me being a bad driver (well thats part of it) but having to get used to the new mirrors. ie. not being able to see with them, the magnification being different, and the overall shape being far different.

all in all, i would have bought them regardless.

but for the record, i dont believe that i should have to explain any modification i make to my evo, as they are made out of personal taste. and, not to point anyone out, but personally i wouldnt qusestion a modification out of respect towards a personal decision - thats just my personality

remember you heard it here first-
as you may notice, i have been less active on the board lately. i stell people that it is due to increased courseload, which is true. but not the whole truth.
this incident among many others has shown me that socal is starting to lose its appeal to me. there is far to much drama, hell i have enough shit to deal with at school and home.
therefore, my usage of socal will decline but meet participation will remain somewhat constant save for work to be done.

this incident wasnt really that big a deal, its more an annoyance than anything else. but what really grinds my gears. i try and help on questions (especially physics and aero related ones) and i have to explain myself every time. we take it to PMs and the other person says that maybe i do know more then them because they are only in high school. that realy pisses me off, because i know that i am probably one of the most knowledgable in physics here, but credit - none.

ok, well that makes since.. i saw those mirrors long time ago in the Toda evo that they had awhile ago at the first SRT meeting. they look great , don't get me wrong, and i guess they happen to use them in the fq400 which i notice as well... i remember some mention that they had difficulties with the mirros but they never when in to detail about it.. since you are creative, why not take the mirrors out, place stock ones back . an create new glass mirror design for a left hand drive ... just an idea..

I do agree with you on the issue of being your car, your choice. Out of curiousity why would you want mirrors that dont work? If you guys knew Matt, you would know that he's passionate about getting his evo to look like the FQ-400, hence the purchase of the mirrors.

It wasn't until installation and sitting in the car afterward that he realized that it was almost impossible to see out of them. Its just going to be the price to pay for his wants.. at least for now.

i've seen the mirrors before, and they do look apealing.. i'm not questioning why or for him to explain himself, since it's his money and he can do what ever he wants with it.

aparently there is some confusion to why you can see out the mirrors. and sam, if you knew more about math you would have figured this out already - but math and physics isnt that important as you said (afterall someone can always come and expalin it when you dont understand)

these are JDM mirrors made for japan, they drive on the right side there. we drive on the left side

now think about it. when you are sitting in the driver's seat, and look in the driver's mirror. what angle does that mirror have to be at to look straight back? well there is a bout 1 foot from your eyes to the glass, and then there is som shallow angle required to look back. all in all, the angle between you and the mirror's line of sight is maybe 20*. now for the passenger side mirror. you are looking at alot steeper angle from your eyes to the mirror, maybe 60* + the same 10* from before to see to the rear.

comparing the 2 mirror angles we have 20* vs 70*. thats a pretty big difference. now, here's the thing. we have 10+10 on the left, and 60+10 on the right. but since on the right we have 60 degrees from position alone, the 10 degrees of the mirror has to be 10 degrees relative to some other line other than the parallel direction of the car. think about it and you can probably visualize better than i can try to eExplain

not to the mirrors. thise mirrors only come on RHD cars, and mitsu had no intention of putting them on LHD cars. so when the mirrors were designed, the motor on them only rotated the mirrors a small amount for minor adjustments for driver height and seat position, not to rotate the amount necessary if the driver was sitting in the "passenger" seat. so the mirrors minorly adjust, but the reference line from which that 10* angle is formed is all off.

now for the interesting part. first the mirrors are maybe half the size of the stock mirrors. that takes a little getting used to. also the reflection, due to the focus of the mirror glass, is far different. the mirrors make everything far smaller than the stock mirrors, as they are trying to cram the same picture into a smaller mirror

the verdict - with my driver side mirror fully adjusted to the left (so i can see to the rear of the car) the reflection shows me my left arm and left shoulder harness, and the side of the car only if i lean foreward (but of course im wearing racing harnesses, so leaning doesnt do much)

sure sam, that sounds dangerous how i cant see, huh? but do you have any idea how dangerous and deadly it is to wear racing harness and get hit in the front or back without wearing a HANS device? im sure you do because of your vast track and race car experience. yet it doesnt stop many people from wearing them every day. these mirrors (and my harnesses) are a calculated risk - and im taking it

driving fast doesnt mean anything if you can controll it. so what would hapen if we knew nothing about bernoulli's principles and static coefficients of friction. rolling friction, rotational mass and momentum (oh, i see you didnt learn that part if you are running larger than 17" wheels) kinetic coefficients of friction, momentum, air friction (drag - both skin friction and pressure) of course after my diffuser thread, i KNOW nobody on the board understands drag (except maybe davy, trinydx). we cant forget equilibrium and how that pertains to the solving of the force, acceleration, or mass of anything that is held static or dynamic. even waves and sound. remember harmonics, and how that can destroy an engine? illegally modified exhaust (not sound compliant).

perhaps now you understand how physics and therefore math applies to cars. also sam asking what does physics have to do with cars is a perfect illustration of my previous point. sam is a grown man, not even a stupid fucking child, and he doesnt see the relevance. is a representave child and grown man dont see the relevance, why should i even waste my time to try and explain this stuff. i may spend up to 30 mins per post to quickly look up numbers or facts so that i can be completely truthfula nd of greatest help tot he community then try and type an explination of college level material to effectively an high school audience. i waste 30 mins of my time per post so someone can say "thats too long, im not reading it" "cliff notes?"
