Last night for the 3rd time in a year, my car got egged.
Why I leave it outside is a mystery even to me. …But I regress.

I need to set up some sort of surveillance to catch these SOBs. However I don’t want to spend thousands on 17 different mini cams, 4 computer screens and a circus midget to manage the entire operation.

I think I need to mount one single camera and wire it to a VCR in the garage with a 10 hour tape. However I’m open to suggestions and other expertise that may be available on the forum.

Thanks in advance,

Blaze

damn that sucks. i hope you catch those bastards and egg them with hardboiled eggs or you can always just give them a good ol' beat down.

theres a spy shop on gale near a billiards store that sells all types of surveillance stuff. the place is on gale between nogales and fullerton. check the place out they may have something for your needs. pm me for better directions getting there.

i have an olddddd school vcr at my laundromat that the previous owner used as a surv. system but the mini tv screen doesnt work no more, maybe you can just go to Frys and pick up a new monitor for about 50 bucks or so and get a 12 hr tape and you are ready to go...let me know you can have it for free ive been lookin to toss it anyways

I'll put a sticky on that to explore at a later date.

Funny thing is, whomever did this, decided to brave cold and rain. That's tells me they were pretty motivated for some reason...?

i only charge 10 bucks an hour to sit in your bushes with a paintball gun every night....

Note : Must turn off sprinklers before hand, and you supply the food, porn, and flashlight

Blaze, look into Motorola Homesight. It connects to your computer thru USB and works with your wireless network. The basic system costs $279, but it comes with a wireless camera and a wireless door or window sensor.

You probably can get it cheaper on Ebay, I've seen it but haven't bought any from there. One thing neat about this setup is you can set it to send you an email and an alert to your mobile phone when doors are triggered or the camera senses motion. It can also record video clips and send it as an attachment.

Good luck.

Went to the spy store today. Found a camera for 200ish and a cable w/power for 100. Good quality over all, range and night vision. Requires a VCR or DVR.

Went to Frys. Found no help from the staff. Finally got someone to answer some questions and he stated I couldn't get a quality system for under 1200.

Bogey, I saw the motorola system @ Frys, but I wasn't sure what it lacked. It didn't come with the cameras and I couldn't tell if it had a DVR system or not.

I learned today that wireless does not necessarily mean no wires. And I'm still confused on what componenents I need and don't need. I'm trying to get away with spending 500ish and have a set it/forget it system.

honestly spending that kinda money to catch some idiot kids isnt worth it, did you know egging a house is NOT illegal...I only know this because back in high school these kids used to egg my house and when we finally caught them all cops said was theyd call their parents, take a report and if any damage over certain amount of money was caused then something could happen (sucks). Anyways if it's been consisten why not just try sitting across the street from your house in another car and wait for the kids to roll by...

The basic system comes with a camera (day only) and a door/window sensor. It hooks up to a computer. No VCR or DVR cause it can save video clips on your computer. And it is really wireless. But it can also accept up to 3 wired cameras. They have a wireless day/night camera available that is less than $200 I think.

This is a very simple system, also very simple to setup. But it is very expandable. Up to 16 wireless devices/triggers and 3 wired cameras. Depends on how much you want to spend. Their wireless sensors are really wireless, battery operated that lasts for a year. The wireless cameras can be battery operated and can also be plugged in AC. The base unit looks like a wireless router.

I bought it from Fry's. Don't bother asking questions, they are very braindead over there.

Look it up on their website.

Yes, I heard something similar.

The police were supposed to be at my door within an hour after my phone call. (I asked dispatch if there were a lot of calls ahead of me + where I was in the que). She'd stated it's not busy and they should be along in an hour or so. 3 hours later, I left to do some errands. Passed by the Carls Jr. down the street and spotted the "hold up". Apparently there was some price gouging going on. 2 patrol cars were parked out front confiscating a high calorie, afternoon snack.

Anyway, later on, someone left a message and stated it's only vandalism if some type of damage had occured.

There are spider marks in my paint on 3 different sections of the car and discoloration on 2 more. Since the entire car will likely be painted (and last time I checked BMW charges some coinage for that) I'm guessing it'll qualify as a crime.

My deductible is about as much as the security system, so if I can nab the fkr's next time it would probably save me some cash in the long run. (3 times in a year is too much).

Thanks bro.
I don't think a 9 hour vcr tape is going to help me as I may forget to rewind and plug it in every night. Consequently I'm in the market for a DVR. Would you friend have any affordable suggestions?

I thought of that, but we don't have a stationary computer at home. I only have my work laptop (which doesn't work when I'm away from home).
