its pretty easy.

when the forum activity is slow, take note how many times a certain individual will post. irrelevant threads, bs threads, random questions.

i saw his name like 10 times in one refresh. pretty obvious O0

That's my favorite past time: deleting +1's and OMGs and  's from vintage threads these dweebs seem to revive. I wonder if they are pondering why their post count never goes up...?

Normally, it helps to remind them they can also post in the WTB/WTT section....

but remember that 70 characters are needed in order to count in your post count.. which makes things a little harder on the n00bs

i hope you're not too butthurt...i just used the latest member list and saw your name at the top at the time. no one is out to get you because you are a noob. i think you're taking us too seriously. this is just site feedback and suggestions. if you need help, post in the correct folder and no one will bash you...given you dont want any mugen parts for your evo and all will be well.

dont take it personal. i honestly think (dont prove me wrong) you came here with intent as a member.

every member here at one point or another will be selling, had sold, or plan to sell something in the future.

what we are trying to keep track of are people who just use socalevo to sell their items with no real intent to stay as a regular member. using this forum as a place of business (i.e. sell stuff swapmeet style) dictates you (or anyone for that matter) sign up as a vendor, pay a fee then market whatever it is they plan to sell.

hopefully this serves as a more prominent deterrent as the socalevo staff does not have 24/7 watching ability at any given time.

I checked out this posts and it's about 50/50 quality verses one ups.
Aside from that out of all the posts, only 7 qualify toward posting a PMC add, so I wouldn't worry too much.

i dont see what the problem with letting a noob buy stuff is,Â* if the noob is the only one willing to buy it why not let him help out the poster, he gets what he wants and the member gets to sell his stuff it helps everyone.Â* but that may just be my opinion

What I look for in whoring is a noob (or really ANYONE) who contributes nothing to say but +1, 's and similar one liners. Also, anyone who is necro-bumping threads is on my personal hit list.

Yesterday for example, we had a noob register, share out his screen name and make 30+ posts. It was excessive, but the posts were...."decent". However he was advised to chill and make separate screen names for the users.

Never the less, we appreciate greatly member and senior members looking out for the integrity of the forums.

Thanks,

Blaze

yes i understand the post whoring to sell stuff. butÂ* evom keeps you from posting to buy also and they get all pissy about noobs looking for stuff in the want to buy.Â* Â*thats what i was saying i dont understand.

that was in response to this where it states its to keep people from buying/selling. i understand the spamming to sell but if they want to buy why not just let them

thisxguy
10-31-2006, 01:26 PM
i can understand buying...but selling is different. also, if they are on the forums longer then some members will recognize them as possibly good people

i think that if a newb wants to buy, then let him. but selling will require a certain amount of posts and days since sign-up O0

S2myEVO
11-01-2006, 04:05 AM
i agree RJ. after reading this entire thread i do think that post whoring is annoying, but what can i say i have done my share of +1's n stuff but only because i had nothing else better to say and like some others say, "i was bored".

not saying there's nothin wrong with this thread or anything.

i support this action of flushing out the "bad newbs" that are just here for buy/sell only.

i love this site more than any other evo site.

I think the whole thing is kinda dumb, when I first got on here I was pretty pissed about the hole thing. I took my time and looked around the site and everything an never did dumb stuff the hole not being able to do certain things only makes people not want to be part of the site or feel unwelcome and theres really no point in that. Also you can tell when someone is a good newb or a douche that being said this is still the best site for evos ftw!

this is pitiful....

everyone who mods cars has parts...

just because they have an evo now, they are tryin to make money???

calm down guys...im sure some of you had spare parts when you got your (not stock) evo...

or some of you got your evo brand new...and had spare parts within a month....

i can understand your point....this is for information and knowledge....but we love to mod cars....

dont hate just because someone new has an evo and some parts...

hey....you might pick up a good part at a noob price....hahaha

it depends where and how they are posting, as long as they are not posting 100 replies of "cool" or necrobumping 2 year old threads just to say "nice" they shouldnt be put in here. but that being said their are thread whores that respond to almost every thread, but it seems ok to be a post whore only if you are evolved. which is retarded. i still think this thread is good because only a few people get named in here and ChrisJ9999 is the first one ive seen reply back. so it does help cut down on people that only want to sell their crap.

That is exactly the setup we currently have on here. The only difference between the two is the post count #.

The purpose of this thread is for the guys who come on here, bump 50 old threads with no input in a matter of hours, then try to post up something for sale. There's no contribution, no asking of stupid questions and no getting the hang of the site. It's simply a pump 'n dump tactic.

That or they post up 50 posts in the off topic folder thinking it counts, realizing it doesn't, then posting it up for sale in the for trade/for buy folder.

Unfortunately, because the site is extremely lax on the enforcement against random noobers in the for sale folder, the site has honestly become mostly a classifieds site. The classifieds sections get more traffic than probably every other folder combined.

it only sends the most mean, hateful message to those who obviously have something to be offended for. there are differences between everybody, just as there is a difference between a newbie who wants to learn and a newbie who just wants to bump up his/her posts to sell something. i couldnt give a shit as to what one is selling - there are rules here that, as TerryS so eloquently pointed out, arent being enforced as often as they should as none of the mods can be online 100% of the time. This at least gives them a heads up, nothing more. Ultimately it is still SoCalEvo.net's staff decision whether or not to prosecute or ban said newbie. Reasoning with the "wrong message" to potential newcomers is a joke of an excuse. If they cant handle the rules (i.e. min post count and no necrobumping old threads to boost posts) in the first place, then their addition would be more of a detriment, instead of an asset, to the community.

If the staff decides to forgo minimum post counts in order to be able to sell, then I would be the first to delete this thread as it will no longer serve a purpose.

until such time that happens, there is a need for this thread and I dont see any legitimate reason to delete it. hate it all you want, I dont see you doing anything productive about the issue.

I'm sure that can be arrange terry, but don't you think that will lead for noobs to ask even more random questions in different threads ? since they won't have the option to create a thread about it.
also, well it already happens with the resurrection of old threads but don't you think this action will encourage this to happen even more?

I've already said what I want to say about this thread. Weather you guys agree or not, doesn't really matter. Macky at least you read it, which is more than I can say for Terry s. As per my doing something about the problem, I don't see that there is a problem. If you look at the page with all the noob introductions, you'll find a bunch of people who are really excited about getting an Evo, wanting to modify, and wanting to be part of this community. It's not a big conspiracy to come on here, and sell junk.
Here's my suggestion for you guys to solve the problem that you have with noobs. Get SoCal to start a Noobie lounge. Much like the specialist lounge except, as a noob you would have to make 100 usefull posts, and pass a test before you are aloud to be part of the real site, (sample question: what forum should I ask the question, whats the best BOV for my evo? A) the vendor classified B) advanced tech and tuning C) I shouldn't ask this at all. Macky and Terry s you can proctor all the exams. That way you could make sure that each and every noob meets your approval.
The only thing I see is a few people trying to show what big shots they are by abusing those who are lower in status then them.

PS- I'm not saying to abandon the post count to sell policy. Obviously it is place to keep people from coming on here just to sell. What I am saying that this anti-noob campaign is the wrong way to go about dealing with it. If you see someone who you feel is here just to make money, report it to a moderator, and let them decide what to do. Rather than alienate all newcomers.

Terry S
06-13-2007, 04:13 PM
*snip*

Dude, let me try to further explain my point.

You said iClub has a 100 post policy that allows n00bs to "figure out the site" before they start posting for sale ad's.

SoCalEvo has a 20 post policy that requires n00bs to "figure out the site" before they can post for sale ad's.

The two are remarkably similar.

The reason for this thread is for the following:

Read these classifieds policies carefully:

*snip*
Breaking these policies will result in heavy consequences including an IP and account ban or restriction from the classifieds area.

20 posts are required to post in the Classifieds sections simply for the fact that we don't want you to register just to post sales. DO NOT TRY TO SPAM POSTS THE REST OF THE FORUMS OR WILL WE WILL RESET YOUR POSTCOUNT OR YOU COULD BE RESTRICTED FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS PERMANENTLY!
TRY A MORE EFFECTIVE WAY TO BUY AND SELL!

Checkout Tunerbid
*snip*

We are just trying to help out with the enforcement of a hardly enforced standing rule that encourages site contribution by new members of which you have previously stated as highly approving of (iClub reference).

No, what I said was that the noobs have 100 posts that are abuse free from expeiranced members. This giving them time to get acclimated to how a speed forum works.

All of us were noobs before so I don't understand why some of the more experienced members hate noobs so much. If you think what a noob has to say was dumb, then just ignore them and maybe someone else is willing to answer their dumb questions. But no, all you noob haters would take your time to read every single words and then take some more of your precious time to reply the noob on how dumb they are. All I know is we are all here bcuz we love our evos and we want to learn more about our cars. Most pplz are here to learn, and not get bash by other pplz.

the problem comes with people that dont really have parts get peoples money then take off with the money leaving the other person screwed. at least a post count shows a little bit of commitment which slightly decreases the chance of getting screwed. however people that spam with the intent of selling increases that chance, and people that spam just to sell stuff also never really contribute to the site or become part of the community which is what the forum is supposed to be about.

I'm disputing the socal policy. I saying this tread is noob abuse for no other reason than to make a few members feel like big shots.

This is from I-Club:
"if we seem clickish, its because we are

we have been hanging out with each other at least once a week, some times four times a week for over a year.

we didnt become good friends over night. we just jumped in the coversation where we thought we had some input.

if you think any one is going to make fun of you, they wont. we have, until now, an spoken rule. if they are under 100 posts no making fun or teasing them. after that we will not fire until fired upon. and if they do ill IM them or edit thier post"

wouldnt making quizzes or approval of other members or any other scheme like that just just make a more "in" in crowd, more newbie bashing, and a more cliquesque environment? i dont think that socal members have been a particularly mean spirited or xenophobic bunch, its generally a pretty accepting community (if you want to see rough pay your 15 bucks and join somethingawful).

on top of it all id say the rules are pretty easy. hell, if someone needs 20 posts they can make 20 short posts in newer threads saying hi or offering an opinion instead of just "bump" (or the dreaded necrobump).

I dont really know the policy on this but, theres a member by the name of MikeEvoIX
which he had a post looking to trade in the wtb/wtt section. I was interested in a Apex gt exhaust he was "trading" then pm me saying he's not trading wants 800 for the exhaust. and also has a cf trunk so I offered to trade for that to, but he said again only for sale "need money". So time went by I let it go. Then another member by the name 06EVOIX for some weird reason was selling the exact same things so I pmmd him and again same responds. So I got curious, I noticed there writing style was the same, "the I dont know how to type and spell style". I got more curious noticed that they one would log on the other would be logged off seconds from each other and vice versa. So now I had all that I needed to put together that those two screen names are the same person. And what was funnier was MikeEvoIX few days before 06EVOIX signed on as a member. He had made a post asking why has it been 6months and he's still a newbie

Sorry for the long paragraph but it just bugs me that you find the parts your looking for and you got people like that ruining it for other people to join also. And Im pretty sure he still hasnt traded no one on here. His posts always go unreplied by both.

I think a lot of n00bs want my title, but really can't replicate the amount of usage/verbage I compose. lol, n00bs. We all learn, but it's always fun to poke at the ones still trying to swim. :P

Today I kept checking on threads that I have been interested in/reading updates on and only to see it's been updated with spam. I could care less in a show and shine thread/regional forum but in a tech/DIY/troubleshoot forum where a member is asking for help and all I see is the same user trying to increase their post count/member status.

http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=37&action=profile;u=12945;sa=showPosts

maybe I could of made a new thread on useless posts but I remembered this thread and spent a good 10mins to find it.

Well in argument... You dont get a post count for just type 2 words or a smiley.... You have to type more than 70 characters to get a post count. I dont see why people even bother to report people as it's lame as heck. I'm just saying... It's the damn internet do what you want. Hell Report me I can careless. I'll still own an Evo regardless of this forum or not. Ya Dig?

So unless it a concerning matter... I think that's when Reporting will be important. That's my .02
