The papers for the evo says that the car has Variable Valve dual mode muffler. What are the modes? Some explanation!

thevariable valve dual mod muffler is a 2 chamber that reroutes exhaust gasses with a flap that gets pushed open by high pressure like when in boost to create a straight pipe" like" exhaust. very restictive at low rpm.

Stand next to your exhaust when it's idling. You can hear the flapper flap around in there.

Nope, its too quiet to hear in the car. I think thats from somewhere in the front.

i hear some sort of popping when i down shift...its very quiet and im the only one that hears it but its there....2 pops exactly everytime. Its not hte tranny thats for sure...its the exhaust

that might be two backfires... kinda weird that you can produce it so reliably though.

ya i can make it happen every time. Its really really hard to hear and so far im the only one able to hear it. Maybe if i roll to a meet one of these days you all can see if im crazy or not.
