View Full Version : MAP tuning the SAFCII

Does anyone know if you can add a MAP sensor, specifically AEM 3.5 bar, and tune the AFC off it rather than the Karman sensor. I have to use a MAP sensor for my datalogger and thought about tuning off the MAP as well. Any info would help.

uhm... what are you talkin' about? the map sensor will give you precise boost readings which may translate into precise mass air flow readings, but you're supposed to be tuning with regards to afrs which means a wideband is of more use. the map sensor helps so you're not guessing how much boost you're making at a specific rpm etc. and will help but you need to look at afrs for tuning.

WTF ?? AEM MAP sensor is for boost reading isn't it ? so how are you suppose to tune of just reading boost? can you make it clearer?. O0

Yes, you can convert the SAFC to tune load based with a MAP sensor instead of just RPM/throttle based.

Do a search on the evil stepchild evom.net, there is a decent thread on there showing how to do it.

why did he state instead of the karman sensor?

do evos have an map sensor? i thot that was the whole idea behind the karman sensor, is that it measure the air intead of calculating. however i'm thinkin that you can run both with the safc? is that it? measure the air but substitute the tps sensor with the map sensor read outs. so this is the "optimal" way to account for closed loop and open loop transitions...

Karman sensor = MAF

The standard SAFC takes the MAF HZ readings and changes them, then gives them to the ecu, which tricks the ECU into going into a different load map, thus a different timing map, and of course changes fueling.

Evos have a stock MAP sensor but it is not accurate enough for this use.

i guess i was confused by his question. substituting map readings for tps readings is different than substituting maf hz readings for map voltage readings.

Yea obviously it still uses the MAF to trick the ecu but it uses the boost pressure instead of RPM.

Thanks Earlyapex, you answered my question. Yes and no. I now understand how it is done. I want to give it a try, but am a little afraid of blowing my engine. I will use the current setup until I can afford a new engine. Thanks for the input.
