I RECOMMEND USING ROYAL PURPLE MOTOR OIL YOU CAN GET IT AT PEPBOYS IT PROTECTS FAR BETTER THAN MOBIL 1 IN OUR MOTORS.

I recommend not using all caps. It might get you in trouble.

Haven't heard of too many people running royal purple.. Thought I remember some people having motor issues using it. Might be wrong though.

there has been research to suggest that synthetic oil improves with age to a certain point. due to innumerable driving styles, habits, and conditions its hard to give an exact time or amount of usage that would nessecitate an oil change. the best thing to do is check your oil regularly for contamination and breakdown and change it when nessecary.

the average recommended is 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.

of course you could only be doing 1000 miles but beating the shit outta the engine and the oil.

use your best judgement. and common sense.

About 4 and 3/4. Almost five, I never finish the last bottle.

5000 and if you go to a track day, very soon after it. if you go to an autocross day, very soon after it. otherwise the mobil 1 is good for 5000 miles of hard street driving.

basically 5000 and never run two high performance events on one change.

i do mine every 2500 miles... using royal purple but have changed to mobile one since i found out royal purple was not a full synthetic oil.

by the way does anyone know if there is a thread on which oil works best or any independent articles on different brands of oil?

trinydex

you could search, most people just use the mobil1. some use royal purple and there's lots of threds on evom about amsoil and fancy stuff like that. but seriously... motor oil is something you change often. it should not be some sort of fancy pants snake oil. also... if an oil gives you more horsepower... it's not protecting something else.

there was a huge thread in www.honda-tech.com that discuss the differences between different oil brands. I believe they also decided to do some testing to see the results (besides what companies advertise on) i will try to find it and make a thread about it (but the damn thing was done over 1-2 yrs ago :( )

i thought they were full synthetic.

and i have 500 more miles till my oil change. should i bring it to the dealer (for warranty reasons) or can i do it myself?

a lot of the oils out there arent truelly fully synthetic.. they have a blend .. some of them are 75% synthetic oils..
thats the main reason why Amzoil and Motul cost so much (defenition of a true synthetic oil)
Do they make a difference between castrol, Mobil 1 and some of the others companies that make synthetic blends, not really!
this was a huge discussion when Mobil 1 reveal on an article (if i recall) that Castrol was making synthetic blends and labeling there product something else.

so, is mobile 1 FULL synthetic?

your oil is good up to 5k miles...
IMO i rather change my around every 3k miles.. an so do a lot of people..
Are you worry about warranty work ?
You can always service your car at some other place (not necessary the dealer) just keep records of every service that you do, in case this becomes an issue on a warranty claim

so i can change the oil myself at 5000 miles?

im changing it at 5000 because i dont drive hard everyday. i'll push it a few times in a month. it's my daily driver.

The only thing gay about mobil one is that they discontinued the 20/50 a while back. I use valvoline now. By the way oil does make a big difference in high horsepower cars, it is a science in itself.

i guess what i was alluding to was that if your oil is thin and it's making you more horsepower it's likely getting stripped off and not protecting as well.

when you get up there in the developement and you're spraying or doing whatever else to the oil you don't need to worry about that. but for daily driven cars... you shouldn't be trying to get hp out of your motor oil.

projektevolutionix

you shoud do it around 3000 miles especially with all that stop and go driving.

3k oil change is really a marketing ploy, ur wasting ur money. unless theres seriously something wrong w/ ur car or you are running from cops all the time, u wouldnt have enough WOT time to burn and breakdown synthetic oil in the timespan of 3k miles.

5k or as said, after a racing event.

EvoPwr

You are not wasteing your money for doing it every 3k miles. It is good because you check up on a few things when you change your oil, like brakes, check your air filter, rotate tires if needed. No problem with keeping your car happy and running good. People who think it is a waste of money will have fun rebuilding their motor because of a leak they didn't notice, maybe bad oil...lots of things :mitsu:

mifesto
01-23-2007, 06:40 AM
but then again u havent refuted the statement that 3k is a waste in normal driving situations... u just used it as an excuse to get ur hands dirty and do ur maintenance check also... yes?

honestly every evo owner should be checking for routine maintenance atleast once every other week...

Depend on how hard i drove... 2000~ 3000 miles... or maybe oil change before and after track day...

Myself and most members I assume use the oem mitsu filter. I pick them up for around $5-6 or so at south coast.

Here is a great website for oil "freaks"
http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

These guys like the German made Castrol as it is different than Castrol made here or elsewhere. They seem to like Penzoil Platinum as well.
Tons of actual oil test data and users that send their used oil off to get analyzed. Almost too much oil info. if you ask me.
My wifes twin turbo audi with 90k miles has run the German Castrol or mobil one Euro blend for it's life. not saying it's the oil but the engine is holding up fine and it still runs strong.
The factory recommends oil changes every 10k miles but I change it every 3-4 k miles. It's kind ofa pain because its an Allroad and it has a skid plate with like 10 fasteners to remove just to get to drain plug and filter. i just put in that Mobil 1 Extended stuff thinking I can go a little longer before the next change. the label says 15k miles but i will definitely change around 4.5 to 5k miles.
In my opinion good oil might cost a little more at each change and more often if interval lower but in the long run it's like insurance to me. I'd rather try and prevent a major engine failure by spreading out my payments over time ;)

PS Bob is the oil guy.. (or so he self proclaims) :2funny:
